Help for an analog guy using mpc1000

Hi all

some months ago i bought AKAI MPC 1000, my live show is an hybrid between digital and analog. MPC is the master clock machine, sending 1 midi sequence for 1 bassline, plus some audio samples (like drums fill in) and the clock out for drum machine (till now i used a DIN SYNC drum machine, programming it live so just need to start in sync). i did the update to JJ OS1 and is perfectly working. I also have a 4 giga flash card. 128mb are installed.

Main problem is that till now i was only able to send ONE midi file (the main bassline) only directed to ONE synth only, as the rest im doing with my hands..i never had the necessity to add more midi sequences....'TILL NOW.....

I know its weird for you guys, but its so far hard for me to understand how to add MORE midi files in 1 track and let them work. let's do an example

MIDI A1 : ROLAND SH 101
MIDI A2: DOEPFER DARK ENERGY
MIDI A3: ROLAND TR 808 (yes i have a midi 808)
MIDI A4: ROLAND JUNO 60
MIDI A5: KORG POLYSIX
and so on.

Can you please explain me exactly what i need to do for creating multiple midi sequences inside the same track but sending different midi notes to different midi channels? i know how to assign every single midi channel on the machines themselves but my main problem is that i really dont know how to create the files in the Akai, like i was doing for Cubase or Logic...for ex

I have already all the midi sequences, i can easily import them through USB from my Mac to the Akai

well the way you address different midi channels is by using different tracks.

for example you set one track to be MIDI 1A and you set track two to be MIDI 2A - this means that track one outputs midi on port a, channel 1, and track two outputs midi on port A, channel 2.

is that what you need to know?

you keep saying 'more midi files' ... well by default your mpc is going to treat each of those midi files as one sequence. the way to bring another midi file into the sequence of another, is to use the midi files to generate two separate sequences, then do a COPY of the track you want from seq1 to seq2.

does that make sense?

btw forgive me if im not 100% correct - im not on a 1k but i believe the basic way it handles midi is the same.

when i try to import is assigning a different SQ for each midi file (1,2,3)

is there a way to do that?

It extremely makes sense. My problem now is to understand how to copy the track i want from seq2 to seq1. That's all i need man! If you are able to explain, will be so far much appreciated.

i think ive SOLVED! keep u updated, it was easy to copy sequences on window+pad13

i cant tell you the exact steps as i dont use a 1000, but it should be in the manual how to copy tracks of a sequence. on an xl i would hit 'edit' and do it in there.

another option - make a new midi file on your computer and include all tracks together like they should be...the mpc can import a multi-track midi file no problem.
