OS Updates?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I was wondering how important these updates are???Where can I find them???How do I program them into ma MPC??Is it safe???These may be a lot of foolish question but, I have been saving for a while to cop dis peice of equipment and i'm paranoid im gonna f$%k it up.

But after I downlaod the operating system how do I put it on my MPC??

Do I just drop it on through USB?
