MPC is triggering pads like a ghost

Help!

This mpc has been in the family for 5 years and has been bugging out on me for the last year or so.





I am using JJOS 2XL and

I have posted a video of whats wrong with it.



Basically multiple pads are triggering even when I disconnect the pad sensors.


Here are some things I have already tried to fix the problem.....

Installed New Ram
Emailed JJOS and already tried reinstalling the OS pressing erase and powering it on
Changed the pad sensitivity to 24,24, and 16
Installed new pads
Prayed...even though Im not religious



I CANT MAKE ANY BEATS and I am going into a depression here......

buying a new mpc is just not an option and the repair centers in Portland are quite expensive and have a 2 month turnaround time.......



My guess is that maybe a Ribbon Cable is corrupt somewhere or the CPU is bad.

Has anyone gone through something similar or have any ideas, Id like to buy a pack of new ribbon cables for my mpc and replace all of them. MPCSTUFF, didnt have the cables I was looking for.

ok, im no expert on this stuff, but im fairly certain the pad sensors are individual (which is why they die one by one) ?

Ribbon is one thing to look at, also i know it sounds dumb but when was the last time it was cleaned?

Open it up, clean it, check EVERYTHING. or send it off for a service.

Has it travelled lately?

I suppose I could try to clean it....What do you recommend using?

I have no idea how I could tell whether the ribbons are good or not, seems like I would just need to replace them. I cant find replacements anywhere though

You should disconnect the ribbon from the other side( connector on the mainboard) and then you will know is it broken or not. If the problem remains you should check the path from the connector on the PCB to the I/O CPU. Maybe the capacitors shown on the picture below are broken or there is a short circuit somewhere. You must check it very carefully.

Thanks for the tip...i cleaned all the ribbons with electric cleaner and the mpc is back and running

i remember when that custom mpc1000 was selling on ebay... i can't remember the name of the online store, but for a while that guy had all the different custom LED colors available... sorry to hear it's acting up as of lately.

this might be a dumb question... but are you sure another piece of gear isn't sending it MIDI signal? i'm assuming it acts like that even with MIDI cables disconnected??
