My data wheel "kicks back"

Hey all,

tried searching, didn't find much in the way of this question.

I picked up a second hand mpc1000 that was taken care of by the previous owner.

My only complaint is that often times when using the data wheel to scroll down, it can kick back up one list item when you stop. It's not frustrating yet but I'm sure it will be eventually.

Also if you jiggle it slightly it will keep going up list items without actually moving a click.

Anyone found a fix to this other than replacing the entire data wheel unit?

Are you using akai OS or JJ OS ?
I ask this because when I was using akai OS I had a similar problem. Strangely enough getting JJOS2XL took care of the problem for me.

Same here. When I moved to JJOS 1,thats no longer a problem for me.

Weird. I am using Akai OS. I decided to learn Akai OS inside and out before trying JJ OS. Thanks for the reply guys.

Just curious. Have you tried the different data wheel settings in JJ? It might be that.

I installed JJOS to give it a whirl and sure enough the jog wheel problem was gone.

However there was an obvious gap when looping sequences so I uninstalled it for now. Still learning and I didn't want to fiddle with it just yet.

I had the same exact problem with my second hand mpc and I sprayed some dexoit on it and it fixed it right up. Hope that helps you some. Take care

Did you disassemble the unit to spray it or just spray around the wheel?

I sprayed the whole thing down with my air compressor and a blower after wiping it down. I haven't had a chance to tear it down though.

Compressed air is a good start. Get a ground bracelet or wear rubber shoes while taking it apart. You can kill yourself so be careful! Make sure the power cord is out for a while and let your MPC cool down a bit. If you have never taken an MPC apart before,you have to be really careful(screws you can strip easily,ribbon cables that can go loose or detach,messing up a switch while removing the case or putting it back on the wrong way....... There's videos on here and youtube that shows you the whole process step by step. I had never taken an MPC apart before but ever since I did two months ago,I learned alot of ish ya dig. Just be careful and if you use anything,use deoxit with some soft pipe cleaners you can clean a water pipe with Try as many things as you can but ask questions here first before you start ripping your MPC apart. Stay away from alcohol unless it's moonshine pure. I'm no MPC guru but I did it right the first time and have done many modifications since then. I can't stress enough as this applies to music as well,GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!
