How do I use an MPC to sample live instruments in real time

So I just bought an MPC 1000 yesterday and after spending hours reading manuals and trying everything I could, I still have no clue if this will do what I need. Here is my setup: I am running analog mics on a real drum set into a mixing board and sending a L and R out with the hopes that I can capture these signals into a sampler and loop them in real time. This would be similar to using the loop station petal for guitar, but instead with drums and in real time with a live metronome / sequencer. My goal is to be able to set a tempo, BPM, number of bars etc, for several different songs, and just play live drums and sample and loop them. This sounds like the first and most basic thing a sampler should do, but after doing a good bit of research I am finding that most samplers are not set up to handle this. Is there any way the MPC 1000 will do this, or should I take it back and get something better. If so, what is on the market that would do what I need. not really what the mpc is designed for.

i think you can sort of do it in some os's (jj?), but something like an octatrack is way more suited for this.

the zoom st-224 sampletrak can actually do what you want. Its really cool, you can set an initial loop to establish the bar length, loop it, and then successive phrases can be synchronized without having to stop any sample playback while recording these new loops. I can tell you it kicks a lot of ass, most editing features can still be used without stopping your other loops (reverse, tuning panning levels etcetera). If only the akai samplers could do this! the downsides of the zoom sampletrak are pretty weak preamp(especially compared to MPC range) and only a minute of 44khz sample time in mono.

What (JJ)OS are you using? If you got the JJOS2XL you can use the looper function. Haven't figured it out myself but I think it would work.

Also you can just play a sequence and record/ sample your stereo drums in the mp. But you'll have to trimedit the wavefile to the starting point of your drums and edit it in you sequence. You can try out differnt settings on your treshold when you're sampling to start the recording as soon as the drums start.
