First off i bought my mpc 1000 a little while ago used and maybe someone dropped it down some stairs or something and thats why I'm having the problem I'm having so maybe no one has experienced this.
The overall problem at this point is the only project that will load up correctly is the last one i worked on. If i then load another project into the memory it loads up all samples( as in i can see it go through all the samples as there loaded on the screen) but when the loading process is over the project that is there is the last one i have done-but in a strange mangled form- the tempo, the sequences(with the same midi notes) and the same effects and same effects settings as the last project. The program however is there for project I intended to load but obviously its useless because the effects are from this one project that seems to have remnants stuck in the RAM. This happens if i load other projects, the exact thing, the tempo of this last project, the sequences, the effects but the program and samples are there(the ones belonging to the project I chose to load) but not the sequence tempo and effects that should be.
This seems to have begun when i changed the program name from the default program 01 to something else and then when i loaded this project(the one that still loads and works) the program that was there had 2 question marks in front of it like this: ??Program 01 and I got it back but I'm not sure how.
Im posting this just incase anyone has experience this, or something similar before because iv lost a lot of work and feel very upset about that and don't want to carry on working even on this one track for fear of losing that too. It seems to me it would be a problem with the RAM and maybe I just need to chuck it out and save up for a long time and get another one but if you have heard of this before it would give me some comfort either way....

I've not had experience of this problem but this is sounding like a RAM addressing problem to me. Like one of the contacts on the address bus is either not contacting or shorting out. :(

I'd give re-seatting the RAM a go, then if it continues try getting at some of the other connectors around the boards & replug them.

After that, see if some new RAM would work.

Hope your MPC gets well soon. :)

create a new folder for every new beat you're working on... save entire memory into that new folder... it sounds to me like you're just saving everything into the same location and overwriting your older beat files with the new ones...

After rereading what bestronger said & your reply Crossings it sounds like you're most likely right.

Even after re-reading its still a little confusing. :hmmm:

Try clearing the memory when you load the new projects in & saving to separate folders on your drives for each project - You can do Sub-folders & Sub-Sub-folders to stop things getting messy. When in the Save Menu create the New Folder there.

When you've made significant alterations to a Project do a Purge & Save to a new folder. You can always delete the old versions folders.

Ok thanks for the replays, especially LZ Roberts as you were more on the right lines but its definitely dying. I reset the memory and its gone more weird, however i really like whats happening with the pads and id like to know if there is a feature on the mpc, maybe with the jj os systems you have to pay for-this one has jj os 3.12-which can do whats going on now. if one shot is selected for the pad it will trigger the sound when its pushed down and then it will sound again when I release the pad. It happens on all the pads and accurately. I searched online but couldn't find anything about a feature on the mpc where you can enable this but Its great for making a beat. I will have to get a new sampler but do you know if you can do this with mpcs anyhow? Im broke so I would probably have to buy either an mpc 2000xl or maybe another sampler(as in a different brand)
