Hi, so I just got a used MPC 1000 and I'm trying to figure out how to make samples from songs. I figured out how to put a file on my Mac onto my MPC 1000 and it worked, but now when I try to actually load the file from the memory card onto the MPC to chop it up, I realized that it's too big of a file to even load and chop up (the song ended up being 1497 KB, haha woops).

So I guess I need to edit the song on my Mac first and pick apart the parts I want to actually use in order to load any of it onto the MPC? I have no idea how to do this. I have no software of that sort on my computer, except for maybe Audacity. And I tried to open the song on my computer into Audacity to edit on the computer first, but it wouldn't work. Is there anything I'm missing here? Is there any way I can upload the song to my MPC and then chop it up on the MPC or do I have to chop it up on the song on my Mac first before loading it to the MPC? If so, how would I go about editing it on my Mac first? Do I need to download some whole other new contraption of a software?

Please let me know, thank you.

Sweet, this looks like it will definitely help. However, even the 5-10 second clip that I tried to move to the MPC is worth 222 KB and it says that there's only 12 free KB for Wave and 1329 free KB for Sequence. So when I try to load that 5-10 sample I press the "DO IT"/ F5 button and nothing happens. No message comes up or anything, and it doesn't show that it has loaded. I'm reading all these steps by the manual but still something is not working. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

hey bro this is just a guess here, but you said you bought it 2nd hand right?

well you should have a lot more then 12kb free in the memory for loading stuff, my guess is the previous owner didnt delete anything and thats why its out of space for your stuff.

so just start going through whats on there, either on the mpc itself or through usb connected to your computer and start deleting stuff you dont use.

Do your homework and understand there's a difference between RAM memory and STORAGE memory. Read the Manual!!!!

you can also directly record the samples from the mac outputs to the MPC inputs and switch the recording mode to MONO and it will give you significantly more sample time

It sounds like what you need is the ram upgrade to allow more sample time.

There is a nice long sticky at the top of this forum with all the info you need.
