File transfers

Let me preface my question with a general thanks to the community for an being an amazing troubleshooting resource for the MPC's. I'm now the proud owner of a shiny MPC 1000
which came to me in VG condition apart from those pesky tactile navigation switches which were either frozen or beaten or both.
After reading about folks here having the same issue I was prepared to dive in with a soldering iron and install some new ones but I'm happy to say that my contact cleaner/lubricant 'Nu-Trol' worked wonders and the machine is working just like new again.
So thanks again for the team effort on this board.

To my question: I've done some searching on this but have not come up with much (My machine didn't come with the manual or cd's).

Firstly it appears as if the MPC is geared towards acting as an external harddrive for a computer. Rather than having a standard usb-a port, it has a usb-b port. So right off the bat I need an adapter to plug in my external usb-mini-b harddrive to the MPC, so that's in the mail. I could have sworn I had my hdd hooked up to my friends 500 without the adaptor, anyway...not to ramble.
My big question right now is where do I find the Windows MPC 1000 USB drivers so that I may transfer folders straight to the MPC?
I'm running JJOS 4.99
Is the hdd adapter the way to go?

Sorry for the long winded background here, I'm just a little disappointed that I haven't uploaded any of my sounds yet.

I think you have the operation of the MPC's USB a bit confused. The MPC itself will appear as a removable storage device in Windows Explorer or OS X Finder. It will either show the CF card inserted in the slot or an internal HD if one is installed inside the MPC. You select which one (CF or HD) is viewable on the computer in the MPC's Save/Load screen where you choose USB to have your computer mount the drive.

So if you have no IDE internal drive installed in the MPC 1000 you will need a CF card. You can't hook up an external USB drive to the MPC and have the MPC read it as you described. I believe the MPC 4000 is the only MPC that can do that.

I've hooked it up to Windows and Ubuntu, switched back and forth between the internal and cf drives in the load function tab. It doesn't mount straight away so I'm guessing I need drivers because Windows shows it as unrecognized.

I guess my memory is skewed regarding hooking up an external hdd directly to the MPC.

I will read the manual.

No you shouldn't need drivers at all. It is a USB 1.1 Class Compliant device. Windows or OS X should recognize the MPC 1000 as a removable drive just by plugging it in. I hope you don't have an issue with the USB port on your 1000. Try another cable and other computers if possible and good luck.

Ok, right on! It's accessing now. I think I may have a bad cable or port but it's working now.

I'm happy to discover that it has a 120gb hdd installed Time to load it up!
