I have an Alesis QS6.1 which doesn't have a sequencer. I'm trying to lay a drum loop off the 1000 then layer over top of the sequence with the QS. I've gone over and over everything from MIDI cable attachment to the settings on both the 1000 and QS and can't get it work. When I lay a sequence from the 1000 and attempt to layer I only get sound from the piece of eqipment my headphones are attached to. If I'm plugged into the QS I get the sound of whatever program I have loaded. When I'm attached to the 1000 I have no sound and vise versa. If I use the QS to lay a drum loop using the sequencer from the 1000 it records fine, but when I change programs the entire sequence takes the instrument sound I've changed to. For example, I'll lay an 808 and hi hat. Simple 90 BPM loop. Now I want to add some organs from a completlyl different program. The second I change programs the 808 and hi hat change to organs. Basically I can;t get these to unit to work together. They work seperately fine, except the QS is worthless for production without a sequencer so I'm stuck. I don't know if this is a simple set-up problem or complicated sitiuation but I'm loosing my mind trying to figure this out and it shouldn't be this difficult. I've used pre-set-up equipment before and had no problems but the set up has me feeling like an idiot. If anybody has these two components and can help walk me through the procedure I would really appreciate it.

ok, what you want to do is lay down,,, say a drum track on the 1000 on channel one. then decide what midi channel you want your QS to be on. i usually put my synths on channel 5 and 6.. just personal prefrance.. ok well pick your midi channel for your synth. im assuming your doing your synth on different channel than your drums. sorry im not a good teacher. ok you got your two sequencign going and you can't hear both of them at the same time (right). your problem is midi doesnt transmit audio it only transmits controls to tell it to hit a note and other settings. therefore you cant hear the sound. you need a mixer to plug both units into so you can hear both at the same time,,, you can pick up just a piece of crap 2,4,6,8 channel mixer to hear both units at once... or an amp with more than one input on it to hear both insturments. hope i said that write without confusion... peace
