Pad one restarts my mpc

Yo,

I bought a second hand mpc 1000, When I hit pad 1 on the unit the module restarts itself. I have no idea what maybe causing this. The unit works perfectly other than this one issue.

Any help is appreciated. I am using the free jjos.

does it have the old pads or the new pad design?

my friend bought a used 1k with the old pads and this would happen if you hit it just right.

he replaced the pads to the new design and had no problems after that.

so i'd say look into replacing the pads if they are the old design,

It is the older design pads. I tested everything firmware wise, everything seemed fine with the memory.

Thanks again, this is definitely encouraging. If I could ask one more question (I did try search) When I actually hold erase before booting up, nothing actually seems to happen. Is this normal? I expected some "memory dump" "soft reset, full reset" etc like found on other modules.

Any way thanks again, its encouraging you're mate got it sorted. I am in the uk so this may cost more than I paid for the actual unit.

The issue is almost certainly due to loose parts shorting out. Open it up, tighten screws/connectors and if you see any metal parts getting too close you can put a spot of electrical tape over them.

BTW the only "conformation" you will get for the system reset is that all the basic system parameters will be reset to default. The most obvious and immediate will be the contrast control, so make sure you hold down erase long enough to see the screen contrast reset itself.

I appreciate you helping me, what you are saying makes allot of sense. If we go by this and think about "pad 1 causes a short" which aspect of the pad could cause a short ?

I will open it up right away and check, need to go on youtube and get the mpc take apart video open.

Ok I opened it up, it was quite dirty inside, dust everywhere, more like a gravel in texture. I cleaned it out and it works (touch wood).
