Sending sequence/song MIDI data from MPC 1000 to Ableton Liv

Hello. I have been lost in the tutorials online about getting the MPC 1000 to play with Live.

I have Ableton Live + APC40 + MPC 1000

I use the MPC for making beats. I have songs already sequenced on the MPC1000.

I now want to play these sequences/songs on my MPC and have the MIDI data go into Ableton Live.

I want to be able to record all the MIDI data from the MPC songs and have it go right into Ableton Live.

I want to be able to push a clip launch button on my APC40 and have the MPC1000 start sending the MIDI data to Ableton Live.

If you can point me in the right direction I would be forever grateful.

You need to figure out what works best for what you are trying to accomplish. You have to choose either Ableton or the MPC as the MIDI master.

In most any scenario you can set up any number of MIDI tracks in Live armed to record any number of MIDI tracks coming from the MPC. In your descriptions you don't say what specifically you are doing with the recorded MIDI going into Live.

As long as you take of the MMC settings described in the link above, your play buttons will all work in sync.

That's a good call. Could turn many nights of experimenting into a few hours, and the e-books make great reference.

Yeah, some stuff is good to learn by trial and error, but this kind of "get it to work as it should" thing is best studied from a reliable source.

Thank you so much for your input. I would like to use my APC40/Ableton as the Master and have the MPC as the slave. I would like to trigger the clips on the APC and have the MPC start playing.

I now have Ableton recording the MIDI data from the MPC but there is no sound. I am guessing it is because the samples on my MPC are not sent via. MIDI to Ableton.

I will look around to see how to get the sound going but have a good idea that i will convert every sequence on my MPC to MIDI and then USB drag and drop onto my computer and pop it into Ableton.

For those who are in the same jam as me. I just downloaded the e-book and it is well worth the money. It is saving me hours on hours of running around on the internet looking for the solution. The guide is easy to read and extremely user friendly.

I am the type of person who will search forever for the information to pay no money at all...I usually like to have the info free. This is the time I broke down and went for it and am very satisfied with the manual and tutorials.

If i have spent hours searching for the free answer, the book cost me about half an hours pay and am well on my way and learning about stuff that I had no idea my MPC and Ableton could do.

If you are like me...buy the manual. it is well worth it

Yeah man that's what's up. You have the drive to dig out the answers yourself but still see the value of investing in really good info that's already been organized for you. Best of both approaches.

Yes you're correct that the MIDI data is strictly just MIDI data, no audio. That aspect regarding your original post is why it was tough to fully visualize what you were trying to set up. You could re-sample the audio internally in the MPC and then drag those audio bounces over USB as well. Or record to Live in real time.

BTW - If the MIDI files from the MPC have swing applied there's the groove extract feature in Live to apply those swung sequences to audio or MIDI that's on your Live Session or arrange view.

thank you for the info. I found that I save all the Sequences I have made in the MPC as MIDI then drag them onto the MPC hard drive or Flash card via USB. This way the samples get saved in the MIDI data and I just dragged them into Ableton live and it works wonders.
