I'm racking my brain over here. So I just got this M audio Venom keyboard. Trying to sync it with my MPC. I have the midi out going from MPC to Midi in on keyboard and Midi in going from MPC to keyboard out.

I am not able to hear any sounds from the keyboard when headphones are plugged into MPC but I can see when in the sync screen on the MPC in the notes tab, that it is registering notes. Now, do I need to have both plugged into a mixer so that they are playing into one set of speakers? I dont know how this isn't working? I thought it would be an easy setup? Please help the noob, please?

Yes.

MIDI is just note trigger and controller data, no audio. You could also plug the Venom's audio outs into the MPC if you want to sample it into the 1000.

Audio and midi don't travel the same cables, they are different and have different routes.

Midi is not audio.

To hear audio from BOTH pieces of gear plug your headphones into the mixer.
Both pieces of gear need to have audio going into that mixer.

Specifically.

Venom audio out -> mixer.
mpc audio out -> mixer.

This is good already. You may have to mess with midi settings in each peice of gear though.

Okay, thought I was getting somewhere and that just threw me for a loop lol.

So how would that work then?

Venom:USB>PC(Ableton) Why do this? venom audio to mixer audio to venom aux will create an audio loop, that's a big problem.

What specific type of mixer do you have?
Mixer audio out -> pc soundcard (again depends on the type of mixer/audio interface you may have)

No sorry needed big man.

Me:

Triton keyboard -> audio interface.
mpc 4k -> audio interface.
audio interface -> pc daw software.

Dude, lampdog, you are the man!

I'll be getting a AMERICAN AUDIO Q-D5, it's used so I have the option of returning it. Thinking maybe I should of gotten a mixer with USB out or audio interface? What audio interface are you using? This one any good?

SAME as me, your venom can be used the same way I use my triton.
keyboard and sound module.

I midi my kybd and mpc4k the same you described up above.

I can trigger my mpc pads from kybd keys and/or the other way around. You can do the same thing when you take some time to learn the midi settings of your machines.
I always use my mpc as sequencer. My pc daw is used for audio tracking. I never sequence inside the computer, that's why my midi cables don't touch/not connected to my audio interface at all.

My audio interface can break out it's channels inside the pc daw. That's why I was saying it depends on the interface/mixer you have/will get.

Some are both mixer and interface and can break out the inputs to channels in daws.

So you'll be getting a pro scratch mixer then, you'll need a computer sound card/interface with inputs if you wanna get audio inter your computer then. Mixer audio out -> audio interface/soundcard.

Awesome, as always, thanks for the info.

So looks like the original Multimix 8 you posted is USB 1 and 16bit recording, does that make a big difference? And then there is a multimix 8 USB 2.0 at 24 bit. I'm no pro however I do want to get the best sound and transfer rate with as low latency as possible.
