How to record outside set pattern

Hi,
I'm new to the mpc and these forums so I'm sorry if I annoy anyone with inane questions. My question is on my mpc 1000, each bar is split into 4 section and then into 4 more sections, and this is where sounds from the pads are assigned. I recently found a sample that will require me to record outside of these bars to fit the beat of the sample, so is there any way I can record freely? I tryed googling but couldn't find anything, maybe because I couldn't word it properly.

Turn off quantize/timing correct and then record your part.

Perhaps you need to change the number of bars of your sequence to fit your sample.
You can choose the number of bars in one sequence....
