I heard from a supplier who spoke to AKAI and apparantly they have discontinued the model and they are now out of stock, so once dealers have ran out of stock, only second-hand models will be available.

I am now in a dilemma as my current MPC has a few faulty buttons and is in generally bad condition. I just worry that it might give up the ghost in 5-10 years time, so maybe I should sell mine now and buy a brand new one whilst there are still a few brand new ones knocking about, thus ensuring longevity of my MPC.

Anyone else worried about the fact that the 1000 is out of production? Is this news to you guys, or I have just been late to clock onto this fact?

It's never been officially announced publicly by Akai, but it was clear they stopped making them a while back.

All the parts that tend to fail in an MPC1000 are all replaceable, like tact switches, pads, buttons, etc. However if you love the MPC1000, no reason not to buy a new one now so you have two :)

But if you have a black one with the new pads and want to sell it, let me know, I can take it off your hands.

Borrowing the thread a bit...

So, you think they'll start thinking about making a mpc 1000 v.2, or smth?

No. If they ever manufacture another standalone MPC, I'll benchpress my MPC60 for 1000 reps.

The last one's were manufactured over two years ago. It's all been dead stock since then. As Tutor alluded to they just never made a public statement. People jumped all over me (well one particular "crusader" actually) when I posted this info like a year and half ago.
