thanx for all the help so far mpc forum members, i must say my sampling ear is a little above-par for a beginner 8) Now im starting to find my drum hits arent falling where they should in my patterns its not even about rythm i've played bass guitar for two years and piano. somehow my drums are always off. ive even got down the little tempo/sample matchup but i still cant get those dang drums bumpin right. i mean my drums sound fine its just i need tips or techniques on how to go about patterning them and finding a rythm. any help is appreciated

You need to be more specific with your inquiry.
Are you breaking up the sample into 1/8 notes across your pads or just playing on loop on one pad?

right now im working with a old horn sample so i breaking it into 1/8 notes but the problem lies not as much in me finding my melody but the timing/tightness/overall rythm of my drums on the track. my friends suggest i get a mentor or something they say i need heavy advice on creating drum patterns and sequences. like not so much the main sample but actually the drums your building around it. if that helps.
sorry i cant be more specific.

yes i must say that quantizing is for beginners, you dont get the feel you want when you quantize.

but as for the poster's inquiry... when you sample your drum sounds, the attack is very important. make sure you chop your samples to EXACTLY where the drum hits. if thats off, your vibe's off. that might be your problem since you say youve got the riddim.

also kick drums should go together with the bass pattern and thats all I'm giving you... I built my sound from the ground up - keep at it and do whatever sounds good to you
