Erasing internal RAM

Erasing internal RAM

Hey all! Ive tried looking for this topic everywhere but cant seem to find a solution. If im ticking anybody off because im asking this and its been explained elsewhere then sorry but dont say i didnt try first.

I want to erase the internal RAM in my MPC1000. There is no auto load capability enabled so why do I still see some programs and samples on my internal memory and how do i get rid of them once and for all so that when i turn my MPC on I have 16MB of free internal memory?

try saving an empty pgm to internal memory, i think that was the trick.

Are you sure you got both Autoload options and disabled them?

I have kept the Internal Memory as it was from the factory, in case someone wants a quick demo. But I keep it turned off, so the memory is squeaky clean when I power the MPC up. No need to overwrite the Internal Memory with silence.

what you do is you load the entire internal memory, erace all but 1 sample, reduce that sample to a statr point of 0 and an end point of one, apply it once to each pgm, now save the pgms back to internal memory, the trick here is to allow it to totally erace its original memory first so when it reaches 100% of eracing turn off the mpc and turn it back on 3 seconds later and i promise the memory will be free.

Yeah, stereoid i checked out your faq before i posted this, i have both the auto load functions off but still when i go to load without the CF card inserted, i still see the unwanted samples and programs.
I appreciate the input guys. I'll give it a go.

"When you go to load"... do you mean you're opening the Load dialog with no card inserted, and so you're looking at the internal flash memory? Well, yeah, you are going to see files there unless you erase them.
What's the problem with them being there in the internal Flash, if they aren't loading at boot, not taking up any RAM?

I just do not like and need the presetsounds, I only copied that dj-hh and then put a soundbank with some favourite custom perc sounds, and some short saw, square and sinussamples in there so they are always available, no matter wether/which cf-cart is inserted.

Oh, I agree, putting your own stuff there is worth the effort, as opposed to just erasing. Sorry 'bout that - I didn't quite get the question first time.. :roll:

Yeah but I'f i'm seeing files using the load option with no CF card inserted then how do i get rid of those files. Basically i want a whole free 16MB of RAM when I power on the MPC. There is not an option for formatting the internal memory which kind of sucks. Hey there's an idea for a new OS feature perhaps?

The process of writing new files to that area includes a Format - it wipes the lot.

Which makes sense from my viewpoint: the only reason to do anything to that internal memory is to put your own stuff in there. So what if you don't like what's in there from the factory? Improve it, or ignore it...
