mpc 1000 question..

what's up everyone.

Im thinking about getting an mpc, but not sure is i want the 1000 or 2xl... i currently produce on software, and I do want something I can create entire beats on standalone. Could someone please point out any reason the 1k is better than that the 2xl besides size? and does the 2xl have usb? since i use the pc so much, i thought the 1000 would be easy to transfer files, but then i read somethign about not being able to quickly map samples to the pads on the 1k ...im totally lost on this, but i sdefinitely dont wanna buy anything i regret!

Please search the archives. We've had so many of these "1000 vs 2000XL" threads that the Moderator has banned them.

This forum is more about getting help with problems, and if we tell you what to buy, next month you come back saying "you guys gave me a bum steer"...

right on, sorry bout that, ill check the threads.. didnt mean to turn it into a "vs" topic, i just thought there may be some things i wouldnt know to look for when comparing "specifications"

the mpc 2000 has more features than the 1000, but came before the 1000, so the 1000 is better for portabilty and communication with computer (USB).

In your case, may be the mpc1000 is the best move if you work a lot with software, you need to transfer stuff with the PC. Plus you limit the financial risk since this is a new device for you.

Last but not least, there will probable be an OS update which will bring additional features, according to a Germqn synth mag.

Yesh, and the MPC1000 doesn't have some of the sample-manipulation things that 2000XL users are used to - chop, reverse, timestretch. You can benefit from doing sample editing and chopping on a computer, not try to do it all on the MPC1000 exclusively, which suits me just fine.

There's a thread earlier that reports that some of these features are coming in firmware, but I won't believe it until you see it, I recommend you don't factor that in to your decision.

But after you worry about the things the MPC1000 doesn't have, you can look at all the things it does have, and I personally appreciate the power I have for controlling other synths and FX via the 64-track sequencer. It's not as "friendly" or "featured" as some competitors (Roland SP, Korg Electribe, etc.), but more "purist" and "immediate" in its field.

excellent, and just wait until you'll create breakbeats on the fly, resample them, send them back to the computer for further manipulation... and then you'll wonder, should I use the mpc 1000 to pilot the sequencer or vice versa ? The fun begins !
