memory overflow

Did anyone have similar problems?

I do not know when it exactly happened, but I was sampling and creating a program, and suddenly on one note played with the keyboard the pgm window where you choose samples and layers was filled with asciii characters, the sound was gone, all parameters were messed up and it was not possible to choose a sample anymore, it would not play. But this happened only on one midi-note. At the same time I suddenly had some strange ugly sounds I had never loaded or chosen instead of some of the ones I had sampled, sounded like random data looped. Probably some memory overflow, and a serious bug maybe.

However, I was able to continue to jam and after saving, switching of, and deleting and recreating the pgm everything was fine again. ?OS version 5...

Never heard of that, sounds like a total one-off. Something corrupted the RAM, could be a power spike, memory error, or just cosmic rays*. If it doesn't happen again, it's not a bug IMHO.

(I work in senior tech support for a major PC company, and I can tell you that unless you can replicate a problem reliably, it won't get fixed.)

* I saw some Intel research that said people in high places e.g. Colorado had far more PC memory "soft" errors, because they get more cosmic rays up there...

a few times i made pgm's with one of the apps for mac. when id load them up on the mpc i'd get strange behavior like this. it only happened when id use the pgm's i made with that one app.

i forget what it was called as i didnt use it much after that (duh). but i use that mpc187 app now sometimes and that seems to work fine.

Now my flat is on the 3rd floor, but I live in northern germany somehow near sea level, so I guess that cannot be the reason.

I think this has also happened once before, when I had just gotten the mpc.

I do some coding sometimes myself and what I saw was typical of a buffer overflow phenomenon, like when sample data gets into the memory dedicated for code, or, more likely, the other way round. You could suddenly see numbers and parts of the alphabet at the places where the sample names should be, all settings and parameters like filter and range were set at random values, and on one occasion the whole window gui was messed up, and looked totally trashed. Maybe it was a problem with too long samplenames, what is the recommendation: 8 characters?

I also have the 128 mb memory from mutec installed, and I hope this is not the problem...it is supposed to work with the mpc, aint it?

Strange, I was sampling synth sounds on the mpc itself, no other software involved...

From first hand experience, I feel myself have all kinds of memory errors up here...
