I skimmed through the HD-thread yesterday, and saw one having success using a 160GB HD, so decided to order that exact one myself - HM160HC - Samsung 2,5 160GB. I think that was the largest HD I saw posted in that thread.

If you format it inside a USB enclosure or went to the trouble of installing it in a desktop just to format it FAT then remove it, it will probably show up as 150-160GB.

If you format inside the MPC it will probably format to 129GB, which is still a ton of space.

40 gigs is really quite a lot for samples (at least one shot samples), and I doubt you'll ever really need it all, unless of course you base your entire production (or live setup) around sampling and the MPC. If you don't gig, and don't have an extensive set of songs, and primarily want to use it for production purposes, I'd say 40 gigs will last you a lifetime. :)

^Yep. On a box that can only load slightly less than 128MB at a time, anything over 10GB is really plenty. I have a folder here that's about 215MB and it has 1,797 single hits in it as an example.
