Using MPC 1000 To Record Midi Notes Into Reason's Sequencer.

I don't know why I can't seem to find an answer for this. First off, I have the tutorial from mpc-tutor to set up Reason with my MPC 1000 and it works great for using reason as a sound module and the mpc as the sequencer, controller etc. However, I cannot get my mpc to just be a midi controller for reason and just simply hit pads , use note repeat and have the midi notes record in reason's sequencer. I was using a 2x2 m-audio midi to usb cord and now I have a roland Duo-Capture Ex Interface with a midi in and out and it still won't record notes into reason via the pads. Can anyone help me or guide me to the right forum if it's already been covered?

So are you saying that you can trigger notes with the MPC pads, but just can't record them in the Reason sequencer?

Yes, I just wanted to use it as a controller for reason instead of using my lpd8. I've tried numerous different ways but I can't seem to hit a pad and get it to record a note in reasons sequencer.
