zip disks with pgms from a 2k? supposedly it is
http://www.akaipro.com/mpc1000 (under SPECS)
Data Compatibility:
MPC1000 SEQ, WAV, PGM
MPC2000/2000XL SEQ (saved as MID file only), WAV, SND, PGM (Most parameters of PGM file can be loaded.)
MPC2500 SEQ, WAV, PGM
MPC4000 SEQ (saved as MID file only), WAV, AKP (DRUM program only...No Keygroups. Only note assign and tune are loaded.)
MPC3000 SND (THRU Computer)
Z4/Z8 WAV, PGM (DRUM program only. Only note assign and tune are loaded.)
S5000/6000 WAV only (THRU Computer)
S1000/3000 No compatibility

The other issue is the if you had multiple partitions on the zip disk, only the first can be read from computer AFAIK.

Well if you look closely at the spec/compatibility list for the 1000, you'll be OK if the Sequence data was saved as a standard MIDI file, and the sounds themselves and the PGM's themselves will load, but maybe not all parameters that you had set up on the XL.

I still have a XL with a zip and and a bunch of external zip drives, but I never partitioned any of the zips so I can't offer anything on any walls you'd hit in that scenario.

I did the same thing with over 30 zip disks. used a usb zip to put all the sounds in an organized folder on my computer. then used a 4gb CF for the 1000. i recommend getting a CF reader because the one on the mpc1000 is SUPER slow. when using 2kxl crafted beats on my 1000 some of my programs transferred, but some files didnt load, yet they were listed when in PGM mode. for example it would show, ?VOX or ?snare343 and so on. if that happened had to manually look for the sample in the assigned folder, which is easy if you keep your stuff organized. .ALL (all sequences and songs) files dont work as the 1000 doesnt read those files. just load a single seq (.MID) which always works on i think any MPC. parameters such as volume, decay, relese, q-link/variation slder, filter, etc... are not saved as its a different OS as the XL (duh), but ill tell you now ive salvaged plenty of beats switching from the 2kxl to the 1000. just when transferring you data from your zips try and keep it organized.
