OK lets make 1 big master list of all the RAM that works

if you bought a third part stick of ram that you use in your MPC and it works
list what brand it is and the specs you are using
(64mb,128mb,256mb,etc)

this way we can just have one list that everyone will be able to check out and we can lessen the amount of useless threads onhere
plus it will be beneficial for all


hopefully we can get it stickied

It would be close to a useless list since RAM models change from week to week, vendors change suppliers and some are not even available anymore.

Given that, my list of RAM that works:
Akai EXM128 - guaranteed to be compatible.

I second that....get the Akai memory. If the MPC1000 reads 256MB of third party memory as 128MB, that's strange in itself!

Besides alot of third party sticks use crappy PCB boards, and high-latency chips...some not even in spec of PC100/133.

You know the Akai upgrade, though cost's a bit more; is make of a six-layer PCB, and has high-quality chips, at a 10ms latecy. It is in complete spec of PC100/133 which is good because the MPC1000's processor runs at two speeds, 100/160MHz. The MPC1000's configuration is 100MHz, so PC100 within spec. is best.....compared to PC133, which, while installed in the MPC1000 runs at 100MHz, but at higher latency, as would in a PC configuration. Am work in IT, and noticed back in the PC100/133 days, then people would use PC133 modules on 100MHz FSB systems, more data errors would incur, especially with cheap, out-of-spec memory...Bad quality and high latecy we're to blame.

That is just my observation....

The Mutec expansion IS the AKAI EXM128.

Mutec makes the modules for Akai.

WOW!

Many people here, myself included have tried PC100 Chips. We all have came to the same conclusion, they don't work in the MPC1000. I'm in IT also and I've tried many, many different brands of memory and none of the PC100 memory would work. (It did not pass the memory checks). I also noticed that some of the PC133 memory did not work also. There are however many people who have installed Third Party memory and haven't had a single glitch, myself included. As for the EXM128, no one knows for sure if it is really a 256mb chip or not unless someone tries it in a Laptop.

Has nothing to do with the fact that it's 3rd party RAM. It's because the SH processor bus width is half the size of the SODIMM memory width. AKAI's EXM is also 256MB.

I bought PNY PC100 256MB RAM (from CompUSA)...it was less than 1/2 the cost of the Akai EXM. It works, I've never seen memory problems, and have never seen issues with my samples. I bought an extra CF card with the left over money.

You can say I lucked out, but I can just as easily say you dumbed out also.

Ps- I saw some of the Akai EXM's that guitar center was handing out for free last month: they are NOT all the same!

boo, no one reads the suggestion section. i already suggested a sticky post with a list of compatible memory + cf cards. people could add up to that list over time...

I know the AKAI stuff is the most reliable and best to get
I jsut wanted to give ppl other options in case they didn't want to fork out the extra money
and since the question has been posed many times
that I figured this would be a good thread to start

True for you, but that may not be the case for everyone. Who knows how many of these so-called bug reports come from people using non-Akai memory in their machines.

We should make that required info when people post problems (along with OS version, etc).
