I just picked up a Motu Midi patchbay and want to sync it with my MPC 1000. I'm using the MPC to sequence 2 synthesizers and a drum machine. I tried running everything through the MPC, but given I have a couple of old synths (Prophet 600 and Casio CZ 101). They do not have midi out and the MPC only has 2 midi outs and 2 midi ins. So the solution is that I picked up this Motu Timepiece.
Unfortunately this bugger is a little more complex than I thought it would be off hand. There is a little menu diving for one. I hooked everything up so that with every synth, there is a midi out and a midi in running to and from the Motu patchbay.
With the MPC I have it connected to the Patchbay like so:
MPC -> Motu Timepiece MIDI Channel 3 IN
Motu Timepiece MIDI Channel 3 OUT -> MPC
Now I figured out you can route an input on the Timepiece such as my input in channel 3 to any of the outputs on the Timepiece.
I've been able to connect everything so the MPC was sending midi notes to the synths and I once successfully had the MPC receiving the notes I was playing from the synth, but now that has gone.
I could also use some advice on what should be my master in this setup. The MPC also has locked up numerous times, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong with my master/slave settings on the MPC. Can't wait to get this figure out and begin sequencing.
