Fat Pads for MPC1000...Any good?

Recently made the switch from software to hardware and got myself a 1000, after playing with a friends 2000xl. I was aware the pads wouldn't feel the same as the 2000xl, but I would like to make them to be more sensitive if possible.

My question is do the Fat Pads really make them 50% more sensitive?

The 1000 fat pads have the corx feature built in, so no need

Yes they have built in cork, so they would be noticeably more sensitive?

I just ordered the thick pads and upgrade for a MPC1000 i recently acquired. Geez i hope they work. Having said that, i also work with a laptop and have an MPD 26. when i bought the MPD i was less than satisfied with the sensitivity due to my finger drumming needs. Soooo i tried all kinds of stuff. Alas, i found the KILLER solution. I purchased a sheet (yes a whole sheet) of bike repair rubber from a local UK shop. WOWZERS it made my MPD like a new controller. SERIOUSLY! I have played on Maschine, MPC studio, Korg Padkontrol etc and have NEVER had the same experience with sensitivity. I would have to say that its probably even better than corks since they have a bit of bounce. When you cut them to size and peel off the back paper layer they stick to the pad just enough to get them in place since its a bit tacky (red side towards sensor). Just wanted to share..

I just used a few layers of ductape, but the bike repair rubber must be the best idea I heard so far.

You're going to love them. A bit softer than the square MPC/MPD sheets, the extra rubber in place of the adhesive corks works really well. My 1000's sensitivity and pad response is as good as any other MPC I have here. Corner triggering works lovely, and you can get away from any need for two finger hard hitting on the pads.

The silicone mod (Trademark Nym) works very well too if you want to sort out a 1k on the cheap.

How long does the mod last?

Nym's been rocking that way for years. And it would be no thing to just re-apply some more once every year or two if need be.

I love the Fat Pads for the 1k, but hats off to a brilliant $5 solution. Look in the archives Nym+Silicone you'll find the brand name even I bet.

Thanks, in the same thread there was a wrap tape fix. I'm going to try that first and see it can hold me until I get the pad fix.

Were you able to try the IMPC into the MPC 1000 yet?

I did tape and round price tag stickers on an MPD, essentially the same issue as a standard 2nd pad revision MPC1000 and silicone is way better, of of course the $40 fat set.

A: All 4 iMPC tracks and programs are combined into one in the exported MPC1000 format project. I'll still try it tomorrow to confirm 100% and I'm curious if it goes smooth with Akai OS and JJ OS's. I'm glad you brought this up aydigi. I could see myself just exported basic stuff and get more use from app. It is quick to use and the stock sounds are pretty good Akai library ones.
