Just got a used 1000 *previous owner superglued one of the b

Got a 1000 for $70 yesterday from an acquaintance at my school. I opened it up and noticed that someone must of used super glue on one of the buttons that had broken.

I plan on getting some replacement buttons, along with the pad upgrade in the future.

The button is glued in their pretty tight, I'm just wondering how I should go about removing it, maybe an X-acto knife?

Although I've opened up a few of these 1000s in the past (just for minor button replacements) I'm no expert so I am wondering what type of precautions I need take to avoid any damage to any of the internal electronics.

Whats scaring you about opening it? Is the button glued to the tact switch?

Well it is a bit beat up, missing screws, q-link, rubber feet, covered in dust, dirt with a couple non responsive pads and some broken buttons. It'll take at least a couple hundred to get it in good shape.

I did open it, to clean it up and see what else might need attention. The button(small cursor button) on the right side has been glued inside to the surface where the button would usually snap in. Instead of buying a replacement this person thought that tons of super glue would solve the issue. What I'm afraid of is pulling it, or cutting it out. Could it cause any damage around that area?

i would slowly cut the button off the lil pieces that hold it to the pcb board with a NEW excato-knife, then once thats outta the way start slowly cutting the lil pieces of plastic out of the holes. pull the whole pcb board out so u can work with it, and go slow, maybe take a few breaks, or only cut on it for 5min at a time, don't drink alc. maybe hold off on blazing till ur breaks...

okay thanks I'm going to give that a try, not to confident about pulling the pcb board out though but I'll give it a shot.

anybody have experience with the pad upgrade replacement, anything I should keep in mind while installing?

Just take a lot of pictures with ur phone while u take it apart so u remember what goes where and what screws were in what holes...just go slow man, take ur time and don't rush shit. If u get frustrated just stop right then and walk away for a while.

I find it helps to get some blank sheets of paper, draw an outline of where the screws come from in the MPC, or in any internal parts, and then tape the screws to the piece of paper in the locations where they come from.

If it don't fit don't force it. Word of advice as I just did the pad upgrade, the ribbon cable was zip-tied to the frame on the bottom, so I had to take the bottom off and clip it. Just telling you this because even when a job seems straight forward, there are always going to be snags. Don't let it discourage you, and if you have questions come here, most of us have tore these things down to frames and built them back several times, help is a keyboard away my man.

Just a general suggestion,
dont loan this acquaintance of yours money or anything that you might want back.
That might seem obvious to some people, but it took me many more years than should be reasonably expected to finally grasp that one.
