MPC System Error and internal memory question

I bout a used 1000 a few months ago and when I got it home I realized I couldnt save to the CF card due to a bent pin (im sure the guy who sold it to me knew this). Anyway I fix the pin and was now able to use my 16gb cf card. Next problem is the machine wont connect to a pc via usb at all. I tried 3 different computers and got the same error. To get around this I bout a pc card reader to transfer files back and forth to the pc. After a few weeks of saving and loading to the card with no problems, all my work suddenly got corrupted and now I get the INSERT MEMORY Card error. I took it apart again and the pins are fine so it must be the board itself.
I was also under the impression that the internal memory can be overwritten so at least I can have my own drums in there instead of the crap it came with. I googled instructions on how to save to the internal memory but when I try it says SYSTEM ERROR. I wanted to order the hard drive kit but dont want to waste my money because it seems like the entire saving system is screwed. BTW I have the free jjos 3.16. I would like to go back to the akai OS to see if that helps anything but that seems impossible without a working card reader. Has anyone had a similar problem? Can the internal memory be completely erased so I can at least save some drums? Im about ready to pawn this thing off on to the next sucker

jjos is written to internal memory.

it sounds like either your card or the reader PCB so consider changing those out. also for shits and giggles reseat your ram. it cant hurt.
