for CDs i would just rip the file and transfer it on the MPC4000.
mpc1000 has SPDIF but its the coax version not the laser version, so if 4000 has spdif in you just connect em

well maybe a 4 track tape deck (like the portastudios) which would work for the 4 outs on the 1000... or maybe a hard disk recorder machine..

then later you can track or transfer the result from those onto the computer.

Yeah, my vocab is not on par when it comes to this shit. I meant staying away from any sort of computer (ideally anything I can pack up into a neat little stack when ever I need to move it because I'm working on my kitchen table at the moment.) But yeah, CD or tape was what I was looking for. I think I'm just gonna buy a mid range tape recorder or something.

you know what? there is one guy here on the forums ian canefire who knows a lot about the roland recorders.. the various models they made... there is a thread or two on here where he goes in depth and compares the pros and cons of the different models and some other brands too if memory serves me correctly.
