I searched this, but find nothing but MIDI sync to DAW to record , want I'm asking about is a bit different.

Say I record a MIDI sequence in the MPC 1000 from a MicroKorg and I really like the sequence of notes I laid down. Is it possible to copy that MIDI sequence over to the PC and bring it into a DAW and just drag a VST instrument over the top, basically to where that VST instrument will play the same pattern as the MicroKorg is?

Kind of like in FL Studio for example, how you can go in Piano Roll and see all the notes and make a copy of the sequence on another track and just load up a new instrument, that plays the same pattern.

Is this possible on the MPC 1000? I wanted to load up instances of Kontakt and Sylenth and just copy the MIDI pattern to them and find suitable patches for the patterns. Then I can go in and add some notes, take some out, lengthen some, etc.

You need a MIDI cable going from MPC MIDI out into your computer. Then just select your midi interface in your DAW and play the sequence from your MPC. You can even use the program change field to try out different presets/patches without touching the computer. (Just to clarify, you don't need to record anything for this to work, all you're doing is sending MIDI information to your DAW and VSTs)

Alternatively you can import MPC sequences into your DAW, have a look at this tutorial: http://www.mpc-tutor.com/mpc-ableton-live-tutorial/

It's a more cumbersome process but it will work if you don't have a MIDI to USB interface
