Hello, I'm sorry if this has already been covered but I struggled to find the answer to this one and hoped someone might please be able to give me some advice?

I want to use my MPC1000 with JJOS2XL to sequence the 6 MIDI voices on my Mutable Instruments Ambika, so one MIDI cable carrying 6 channels, all coming from the MPC sequencers, with a different MIDI channel assigned to 6 MIDI tracks.

In addition, I'd like my Dave Smith Tempest (with a single MIDI out, combined MIDI clock and note data) to be the master clock and also to input the MIDI note data to the MPC tracks.

I hoped to be able to record live notes onto each track individually and build up layers of synth as I go.

The first question is, can I actually do that? I only got the MPC last night, so I can perceive with it if it's actually possible.

So far I've set it up so that the MPC passes through the MIDI data and clock to the Ambika. The MPC also shows that it's receiving MIDI data from the TEMPEST and it knows which channel it's on. There are 2 choices for the type of sync; MIDI Clock and MIDI Timecode, but I can't seem to be able to record the MIDI notes into the track.

I have track set to MID, not Drum, and I overdub press play but it says "Waiting for MIDI to Play" even though it picked up the clock and run fine before trying to record the MIDI.

Any advice would be appreciated, even if you simply tell me I'm on a hiding to nothing :)

Thanks very much! J

I have to set the output midi channel from the Tempest to the corresponding track number on the MPC if I want to record the midi from it.

Lovely stuff having polyphonic control of the Ambika and being able to sequence the 6 voices independently monophonically or two sets of three voices for chords. The Tempest really fell short on that functionality, which was the reason for getting the MPC.

Cheers dudes
