MPC 1000 Crashes when Auditioning samples

MPC 1000 Crashes when Auditioning samples.

Audition works and then after playing a few samples it's as if it chokes, it plays a snippet of the sound after letting go of the button like its trying to catch up, and then if you carry on trying to audition it usually freezes up. Nothing responds and the only option is to power down.

Tried it with or without ram installed and the same thing happens.

Using JJOS free, but also happens in JJOS2XL demo.

Using a brand new Transcend 4gb 133x CF formatted in the mpc. Tried reformatting. Checked that all file names contain no spaces or .'s or any other strange characters and are all wav 44.1 16 bit.

EDIT - Just also discovered it's freezing when trying to save a project too, gets midway through saving files and freezes up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

have you done a hard reset, hold erase while powering up?

Thanks for the reply. Just done a hard reset, but it doesn't seem to of helped.

Hopefully its just a problem with the card (strange with it being brand new though), I read the CF recommendation thread and some people have lot's of problems with 'Transcend 133x 4gb'. It also seems to work fine for others though, so maybe not...

Once sounds are in the internal memory it plays them fine though with no issues. It's just auditioning, saving and loading from and to the card. The card was also never visible from my mac when I hooked it up to the mpc.

Not sure sure if I should be increasing or decreasing read and write speeds on the next card I buy?
Does it sound like its just a bad card?

Look for bent pins inside the card reader. Also try a 2 GB card, since that´s the highest capacity the MPC officially supports!

Pins in the reader all look pretty straight to my eye. Going to buy some different cards and see if it helps (good shout on trying 2gb).
Probably going to get a sandisk as these have worked well for me in other devices in the past.

It seems like a real gamble as to which cards work. The recommendation thread is pretty confusing, with cards working for some and not others. There seems to be a lot of variables in play with different sizes/speeds/brands of cards, OS and model of MPC.

FWIW, I have used a bunch of different cards (Kingston, Sandisk, no-name products, etc.) and they all worked fine for me. But like I said I never used cards above 2 GB...
