MPC 1000 & E-MU Xboard 25 MIDI problem

I am having the same kind of problem that has been described and not yet answered in the following entry:

As in the above situation, my Xboard does trigger other hardware or software synths when connected directly to a hardware synth or a computer. The MIDI data can be trigged on my MPC by other devices (in my case, I triggered it with Korg EA-1). Settings on the MPC are therefore set correctly, a midi cable (tried 2) is functioning well. In fact, the MIDI data from Xboard does get sent to the MPC when Xboard is connected to an external synth and the latter - to the MPC. The only way Xboard and MPC do not communicate via MIDI is when Xboard's MIDI Out is linked directly to MPC's MIDI In.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

not really sure what's your problem, but I guess you need to set Soft Thru to: OMNI AB (for both out ports) to send from X-board as you play in realtime from other soundmodule, otherwise MPC will only output on playback (previously recorded notes). I had one 49 and it's quite good with MPC, it has Channel Pressure, and MPC pads have Polyphonic Aftertouch for instance which is cool to have both

To my mind, the problem I am still experiencing does not depend on how to set Soft Thru, because Xboard does not even manage to trigger drum samples that are loaded to an MPC nevermind anything that is connected to MPC's Midi Out. So the problem is this: while Xboard does seem to send midi data (it's Midi Out indicator blinks when the keys are pressed) the MPC does not record any midi data. As said, MPC does record midi data sent from other keyboards and Xboard does manage to trigger other devices (I can use it to play my rack synths).

Hope it sheds more light on the problem.

I don't know which OS you got but on OSXL there is MIDI monitor or you might try to use a MIDIOX soft to solve it.

It's JJ OS1. I installed the MIDIOX. Not sure exactly how to spot the problem in that software, but as far as the midi signal is concerned, it shows that it comes through alright.

Another interesting fact is that if I connect the Xboard to my hardware synth - say, Korg EA-1 - via MIDI and then via Korg's Midi Thru to an MPC, the midi data does get transmitted and recorded. So the problem appears only when Xboard is directly connected to an MPC.

By the way, what OS did you have when you connected your MPC 1K to an Xboard? I'm thinking maybe it's an OS issue.

Korg's Midi Thru to an MPC, the midi data does get transmitted and recorded. So the problem appears only when Xboard is directly connected to an MPC.

That does not make sense at all..
if it works with a thru box and you can record in mpc... I don't think the OS matters, but I got jjos2xl.
Better check MIDI cables, exchange them.

Checked with several cables, so they are not the problem.

So Xboard and MPC work when Xboard goes thru some other synth - not a MIDI thru box, by the way - but it does not work when connected directly to the MPC. That's a fact even if it is hard to make sense of.

I tried Xboard > Novation Zero SK SL MK1 > MPC 1000 and it worked. So it need not be a synth in between the Xboard and MPC for it to work; another MIDI controller does just fine.
So it seems that the problem lies in the MIDI signal which, when 'translated' by in-between gear, comes out so that MPC does 'understand' yet when it goes directly from Xboard the MPC does not get it.
If that is the case, what are the possible solutions to the problem?

Let's close this with this then: despite a number of post in various forums around the net, the solution to this mysterious issue is beyond now.
