help diagnosing mpc1k sample load issue?

hey..
hopefully someone will have some insight on this
just picked up a black 1k with JJos1 &2 installed
on sample loading am getting "?" before samples when loading and samples are just faint clicks ie not loaded
thought it might be a corrupt HDD
but its happening on CF card also
bad ram?
corrupt OS install?
no other strangeness other than that just now, did a search but couldn't find anyone with this issue across multiple media devices
any help would be great.. before it goes back to its seller

ok some more testing reveals it to be the "save entire memory" command if i also/alternatively save all projects and save the sequence all is good
much as in this thread:

could be a corrupt JJOS install?
have just updated from os2 1.09 to latest
might have to try os2xl but read somewhere you cant have os2 and xl on same drive?
if anyone wold confirm this?
