What about some SERIOUS modifications ?!?!?!

In the three months I've owned my 1k I considered on a daily basis how cool you can make the looks of it.

I came up with the following things: (forget about cost and other legal aspects !!!)

-Take all the white knobs, faders and buttons and change them for custom made brushed aluminium or whatever material/color you like.

-Remove the original green backlit EL-foil and change it for blue or (incredibly cool) red like on the Virus C

-Take the sidepanels off and get them professionally rubberized, chromized etc. or let a guitar builder make wooden panels.

Stereoroid and other brave members who took the screwdriver allready at hand, are you reading ? Did someone take a closer look at the EL-foil ?
Is it changeable ?

What about sticking all heads together so we can make a database for
measures, resources, detailed pictures etc ?

I agree with this idea. If you really love your piece of equipment you want to make it special to you, something that stands out and represents who you are. I'd love to replace my plastic panels with wood ones that would be tight. Rhythm, you may want to call up forat and see if they could do work for you or have tips. I'm not sure of any other places but just a start.

I was thinking more of finding partsuppliers for ourselves because Forat is pretty expensive. And the pictures of most of the MPC's they took care of aren't my idea of a "stylish" modification.

IMO the 1k is looking not too bad with the blue "body" and it's labeling.
Just changing out the parts and/or colors from the cheap looking parts
would already do miracles.

I can imagine that with the right choice of materials the 1k looks as strong builded as the other MPC's.

My dad has a company which is specialized in small "high precision" metal parts. I already talked about the side panels with him and showed a technical drawing of it, but he thought that making complete panels from metal (so they could be properly chromed) or aluminium would be too expensive when producing small amounts of them.
But the buttons would be another story because we need lots of them and
I guess much more owners would be interested in them.

6x small white function keys
11x small white other keys
4x bigger white
2x red
1x "DATA"
2x "REC GAIN" + "MAIN VOLUME"
2x fader knobs

"TAP TEMPO" - "PLAY START" - "PLAY" - "STOP" - "Q1" and Q2", the 17 small ones and the 3 wheels could be brushed alu or anodized blue.

"REC" and "OVERDUB" could be red anodized.

There's a small internetshop in Germany which sells EL-Foils for faded out music-equipment displays like the S1000 etc.
I read on their site they can deliver all colors to specific measures.

I'll send them an email, and keep you all informed.

What do U care? Maybe he is into both making beats AND costumizing his MPC? This is the second time I read your nobrain comments water-whatever. Why dont U find something better to do than delivering bull all over the Forum?

some good ideas. I painted the side panels blue to match the rest , but im still definitely interested in customizing the knobs and text colors. If you come up with a method that is less than $100, let me know.

As far as Forat goes... forget them. they charge $500 just for the minimum paint job, which is one color. thats crazy.

Xavier I'd like to know what products you used and what prep work you did to paint your side panels? And do you have pics? I would also be interested in the metal knobs and buttons. Aluminium faders..alu brushed knobs. OI OI OI. Wooden sidepanels. Blue LCD screen...ooooh. Sounds really sexy. I wont be parting with my 1K any time soon so if its on let us know. Maybe u could "fabricate" a demo prototype and put on some pics to get the juices flowing. GJ man.

no prep work. removed side panels. sprayed 1 thin layer of blue 'Plastic Paint' (comes in spray can from Home Depot). waited 2 minutes. sprayed another thin layer. left in garage for 24 hours. sprayed 2 more thin layers.
left in garage for another 24 hours. sprayed 1 thin layer. left in garage for 48 hours...

the idea to use plastic paint came from someone else on this forum. it works. ive been using the '1000 daily for months since. i pick it up by the side panels and put in a case to take-out a lot and there is no signs of wear on the color.

I'm pondering ways to link the pad to external inputs. Then I could plug in drum pads and use sticks on them!

(I could get a MIDI pad set, like an Octopad, but I want that instant response...)
