Hello!

I just purchased a used MPC 1000 but from a professional seller, so I can return it within 30 days and have a 1 year warranty. It is the all black one, I did the wiggle-test and it looks like I got the new pads. Although the neighbouring pads dont seem to move very much when I wiggle on a pad on the lowest row (1-4), they move quite a bit when I wiggle on a pad on the top row (13-16).

At first I was super happy, but now I noticed, that when I hit a pad, it often triggers the sample twice. Well, not often like every other time, but often enough that it is noticable. For example I just recorded a very basic sequence of 4 bars, just 1/4 hihats and kick and snare on 1 and 3 with no quantization, and two times the pad with the hihat triggered twice. If i repeatedly hit a pad, it sometimes triggers just right for a while, and somtimes it triggers twice many times in a row, so it is hard to give an estimated percentage. This seems to be the behaviour for all pads.

Is it possible that i am doing something wrong? Is it possible that there is an easy fix? I would really like to keep it, but this issue is annoying me even after just a few hours of playing around with it (got it in the mail today). I owned a MPC 500 a few years ago and do not remember having problems like this.

I know there are sometimes problems with the pads on the MPC 1000, but it seems like they are usually too stiff/not sensitive enough. My web search for my issue showed no results. Maybe the previous owner tried to fix pads that were too stiff?

I think it might just be your technique, I had that too when I got my MPC at first. Try to tap rather than press, and hit the pad right in the middle cause the censor is round. See if it improves after a while, a week or two. Otherwise you can just send it back.

It would be great if it is just my technique. I definitely do tapping rather than pressing, my fingers are in the air, move down to the pad and hit it for a few miliseconds, then move back up. I get a good velocity/volume even when not on full velocity mode. Also i don't recall having this problem on the 500, but then again it's been a few years.

Is the wiggle-behaviour i described normal?

If you have the pad upgrade/ sensor sheet type pads just remove the faceplate and pads, then wipe the sheet clean with a damp cloth.

If you have the old style pads it’s probably time to replace them with the pad upgrade.

I have new style pads and fat pad sheet

After long periods of nonuse, my mpc1000 would trigger double taps or ghost trigger.

I eventually fixed it by making small incisions with razor blade on underlying pad sheet to release trapped air / vacuum pressure.

I made a post about it long time ago with pictures.
