New to me MPC1000

Brand new to the scene. I recently picked up a very beaten up MPC1000. The original blue version. This thing has clearly been dropped one too many times. No side plate, missing slider, several buttons broken.



I spent the past few days cleaning it up. Took everything apart and cleaned and scrubbed all the metal pieces, dusted off and cleaned all the PCBs and have it back together making sounds which is awesome!

Just wanted to say hi and looking forward to playing with this as I restore it. Speaking of, before I take the plunge into mpc stuff, has anyone upgraded and no longer needs some of the spare parts? I'm happy to pay for a side cover and some buttons.

Also, I know the pad upgrade is a must (although my pads seem mostly ok) but does anyone have opinions on the regular size vs thick pads? I don't know how I'll feel about the thick ones.

I'd recommend looking into the pad upgrade for sure, the OG 1Ks came with a new pad system, separate sensors for each pad, & these tend to fail & cause problems faster than the regular single sheet pads & sensors.

As for the side panels, I'm looking in to that myself as I have busted side that needs replacing. MPCstuff has them of course, but I live in Asia so the postage fees are ridiculous. I'm looking into getting 3D printing documents to make them locally.

I think so. I picked it up for $150, which seems less than what I see on ebay, etc. But it is 20 years old and pretty beat up. Either way, I'm happy with what I paid for it.

I thought I responded earlier but it disappeared.. I already have some of the parts sketched out in 3d modelling software, but I recently moved and my 3d printers are still packed away. I can't verify the accuracy yet, but I will for sure be releasing any and all 3d models I make on github/thingiverse. I also need to find my protractor and proper calipers to get all the angles and dimensions spot on.

$150 is very cheap, even if there ends up being a few hundred bucks spent in upgrades, it'll still be a bargain!

That's dope you have the 3D printing gear, you could replace any busted buttons too as well as the sides,
I've no experience or clue about it, but after some deep google dives it does seem like anything plastic can be made!

I'm a tech-y and I like the idea of using another MPC as a loaner machine. I did this once with an Asus Nexus 7 tablet. I tried to load an alternative operating system on there but ended up bricking it. The iFixIt.com forums showed how easy it was to fix, so I looked on eBay for another machine, found one that works but had a broken screen. I was able to fix mine with the good parts, then sell them both as a working unit and another for replacement parts.
