Hello,

I have two quick questions about using the MPC1000 live with a mostly electro/techno set.
(I hope that HYENA will help me again ! :-D )

I mainly use it in the "Track Mute" section, where I use my rhythms, some notes, and some samples.

The first question concerns the use of FX.

When I want to add a filter (or another FX) to some of the tracks, I can easily assign it to the one I want.
My problem is that as soon as the live performance starts, if I move my track selection to the bottom left of the Main menu, the FX no longer works.

When I'm playing, of course, I can't change the selected track.

Is this normal ?

The second question concerns the "Chock Groups" section.

I sometimes want one of my samples (placed on a track) to mute the others when they play over it.

Example: I add a "fill rhythm" whose purpose is to mute some of the other tracks at the end of the loop (to really create a break at the end of the loop).
This works fine when I press the pads directly.
However, when it's in track mode (and therefore in the "Tracks Mute" section that I use live), it no longer works at all.

Is this also normal ?

Thank you in advance for your messages.

Sorry I forgot to specify regarding the FX that I am trying to use the Q-Link to use an FX on one of the tracks.

Not sure if you're on Akai or JJOS firmware, or what difference it may make - I only know JJOS..

As I play a lot of live gigs with the 1000, using track mutes & playing pads live at the same time, I use a little midi pad controller to trigger tracks on & off by mapping them to track mutes on each specific channel. I've an old Akai LPD8 that I've had for years & wasn't really using at all, so I invested in a little cheap USB to MIDI host box to connect to the MPC, as the LPD is usb midi only & bus powered like most devices of that nature - works great though!

Not sure about your FX situation, never had issues like that myself - only thing I do know is the FX only work on the main stereo out, & not on the individual mono outs.

yah both behaviours are normal. What Moot is suggesting is really clever and will solve your issue: instead of living in the track mute page you'll stay on the main page so you can quickly jump to other tracks and use q-links on that track, and use the external midi thing to mute\unmute.
TIP: on the main page you can quickly jump to other tracks by holding the qlink 2 AFTER button and pressing a pad, where pad 1 = track 1, pad 2 = trk 2 etc... keep in mind this is bank sensitive, so if you are on bank b and you press pad 1 = trk 17

the other issue: keep in mind that the CHOKE function is made to work inside a single program, essentially for closed\open hi hat relationship, so it is not designed to work over multiple tracks where a track can choke another track (but i'm not sure i understood you correctly , in case i did not please elaborate)

Solid advice from Hyena there as always!

Yeah.. staying in the track mute screen is unfortunately quite limiting - but thanks to our lord & saviour the Japanese Jenius, the 1000 & 2500 are very well setup for all kinds of workflows & tweaks, MIDI mapping is a dream compared to other devices I've used!

I find that converting all my finished songs to one sequence, & then staying on the main sequence / track page gives me access to everything I need, including Q link control, but track mutes are still awkward unless you can control them externally via midi.

And regarding choke groups, going by my same workflow technique, it's important to have the correct track selected in the main page - for instance my drums are on track one, so when I play live I like to add an extra kick / snare or drum fill to change things up, I have to make sure I'm on Track 1 on the main screen for the chokes to work correctly. Hope that makes sense! ;)

yah JJ really made our lives better! :) just played a live set last night, half of it on the 1k half on the live mk1 because i already had a cool live project there and the new one on the 1k wasnt finished yet, but it definitely can be done on a single project on the 1k (i played about 1hr and an half).
cool workflow there Moot!!!

Nice! I had (actually still have) the Live, but had some issues with it that were causing havoc for me at gigs, so I went back to the 1K! I regret deviating from my original plan of getting an SP to pair with the 1K for a big RAM & FX boost..

Interested to hear what you do live!

Thanks everyone for your replies !
I've found some solutions to my problems.

MOOT, I'm not sure if you're asking me what I do live.
Just in case, here's a live recording from 12 years ago (sorry, the sound isn't very clean).

A photo of what we were using.
We don't see everything on the photo, I also had the MPC303 and my ROLAND Juno1 on my side, while my friend also had the KORG MS2000 and the KORG EMX-1.
