Should I trade MPC1000 for SP1200?

I have someone who wants to do this trade. His SP1200 for my MPC1000.
I have always loved the sound of the SP but it only has 10 sec. sample time and other limitiations etc.. Also I only paid $750 for my MPC and they are readily available so I could replace it etc...

I've been thinking about it and just wondered what you guys might think.
Would you do it?

if the sp1200 is in good condition def. do it being that you only paid 750 for the 1k... sp1200 go for like 1,100 minimum so i would say thats a good trade for you...

10 seconds...........some people can do it but i would never be able to.

if you like that low bit sound (which i really really do) download Hyperprism's Sonic Decimator. It creates the 12 bit sound and such (that gritty high end distortion that sparkles).

otherwise one can do pretty much the same thing on both, you just have more room on the mpc...

i say do it then sell the sp for around 1100-1200 or whatever they go for and then cop a 1k and something else if anything...either way its a quick 400-500 bucks in the pocket especially now that sp1200s are selling pretty quick

The SP 1200 does have a ill sound to it, but I think that would be a huge mistake. It's too limited.

sp1200 is easier to use, sounds way way better, more character. Sure people say they can get the same sound other ways but the sp1200 is immediate. Sample some drums in the sp and you might not want the mpc1000. Its all preference. If you need mad sample time and like to control other equipment via midi, then stick with the mpc1000.
If your production is strictly sample based and u got crates, and can flip samples to make the most out of them then the sp1200 is a goood look.
But really test it out before you make a decision. Seriously, its more about how you like to work as far as technology goes.

I like that get on your grind do what homie said above trade it sell it make that profit buy another mpc1000 and get something else u need for your studio or pay a bill

that's actually a damn good idea, unless the sp is worn down

i'm not belittling that little device. my favorite producer uses strictly an sp 1200.

The SP would be a great box to have. Like if I had enough spare cash I'd cop a Roland TR808, TR909, Jupiter 4, an Arp 2600 and a Korg MS20 at the drop of a hat. But these are luxuries at the end of the day given cost/function ratio compared to modern gear.

Bottom line is, if you do it don't imagine the SP will *replace* the MPC1000 that's all.

Also, sure your favourite producer might use the SP but I bet you it's not the only thing they use by a mile.

The sp1200 might be a good addition to what you have but not to strait up trade for it.

I would trade in a second, it's easier to save up for a 1000 than it would be for a 1200, and you are getting the SP for cheap!

1k is nice but a sp1200 would rock it for you. Try it out and see, if you don't like it...trade it to somebody for a MP3k or a 60.
