Hi y'all

as posted in a few places at this stage im about to take the leap and get me an MPC...

quite possibly the MPC1000. But i just HAVE to answer this one first before i leap.

Plain and simple... Is the timing on the MPC 1000 ok??

by OK I mean TIGHT.... i mean tighter than a ducks arse in a bath of sulphuric acid tight... as tight as the MPC 2000xl is claimed to be... i mean SUPER f*ng TIGHT!!

well??? you all own it... so what do you think??

nothing would p*** me off more than buying this machine and then finding out there was even a slight timing issue.. know what i mean.
(in fact i see some guys posting "i love my MPC 1000 but the timing is a bit off..." what the hell does that mean... so why do you love it... jeez! )

Keeping it short I think the timings tight as a knats chuff mate... One of the pluses of the mpc is the sequencer timing & if its good enough for Autechre live & the likes Im sure it will suffice your requirements...

there's no timing issue. anyone who can't tap along to the metronome and get their shit on beat must have broken fingers or a lobotomy.

splinter i like your sig, well written

Why are you using the 2k as a reference ? The 60 and 3k were tighter...

The 1k is not as tight as the two forementioned which is proveable by waveform over grid comparison.

And why should WE be any reference? Go try a 1k for yourself and test if it's up to the resolution of your hearing

yeah youre right... its not down to you guys to decide if I like the timing on it or not.... fair point ;)

but i guess if theres a common consensus from a load of people making music that the timing is GREAT or the timing SUCKS well then I'll have a good idea right? (getting to a store and trying these babys out is not the easiest task for me right now...)

i think i remember when i first got a 1k, i did some kind of timing test. like some 16th note high hats non-swing or something. at the time i wasnt really totally totally impressed. i might be imagining this though. and the reason i dont remember is, ive been using the 1k for over a year now and ive never once felt like the timing wasnt doing what i wanted it to do. it has always sounded great, rhythm-wise.

im also really really picky about the timing in a track being tight. for instance, when i was pre-mpc i was using a computer to trigger hardware synths and samplers and i always felt like the timing was sh it.

but now, something like 18 months later i still use the 1k all the time and always feel like the thing just sounds awesome and funky (in a good way). i dont know, maybe there is something wrong with the timing that a person could hear in a test kind of situation, but in terms of actually using it to make beats ive always felt the timing sounded great.

not that the damn thing doesnt have its issues...
