Allright heres the deal. I am using a Kingston 512mb Cf and a PQI 512 CF card. I havent checked any other cards to see if its just a card problem but since I have 2 cards im guessing my MPC's drive went bad. Anyways everytime I laod up one of the CF cards the MPC cannot read it. So I goto UTIL to format, and it cannot format it, it says INVALID. So I goto computer and I format it,a nd works great(FAT32).. So I load up some wavs and re laod into the MPC. When it reaches the MPC it does the same thing again, cannot read, cannot format. Did the same with both my cards.... So I went back to PC and re formmated the cards in just regular FAT.. thinking that might solve it... once again I did all teh same ish I said before and it still gives me errors. Anyone ever encounter this? Im on OS 1.04.. i was htinking it may be an OS problem that 1.7 can fix but I cant update my OS because I cant load a single CF card. did my CF drive go bad???

where's the card that came with your mpc? try using that. then try loading the new os on the card that came with it.

I've never had a problem with any of my cards (ever). if the card that came with it doesn't work i would then start to think it's the reader.

THIS IS FACT!

Format as FAT ONLY (FAT16)

Not Sure

OS 1.04 could be causing it, though I suggest some how u update it ASAP!

I suggest using the orginal cf card but dont put in the pc do it by connecting the mpc to the usb. then update.

hold your MPC vertically, with the CF card slot pointing upwards, sit under a bright light, and view the pins inside, if any of them are bent, you have to get a new one(just CF card socket), or you can try repairing it. they are at different heights.

also, try holding ERASE when you turn your MPC on to do a factory setting reset, the setting might've gotten screwed for one reason or another.

Do you have the RAM upgrade? try taking it out and seeing if it works ok, this may be causing problems.

Hey MelleMel,

This is MAC I sold you the MPC. I connected it to the computer VIA usb port. drop the new *.bin onto the removable drive and updated the new software. Booted the 1000 back up "CF reader was recognized" new OS installed.

I think the problem was you either had the CF formated incorrectly, therefore resulting in the "format invalid" error message. When I loaded my 128 card the thing worked PIMPED, format "FAT 16."

MelleMel Good luck with the music keep making beats and make sure to send me back my manual.

This board is killer, thanks for all the advice users. I am gonna post my MPC1000 in the FS section trying to fund for a MPC2000.
