if time stretch etc was added to the mpc1000

would it only be possible if a new model of the mpc1k came out, or could a software update enable it?

conspiracy thories!! its not a fact that they are going to do this so why get ya hopes up!

that's awesome because i didn't want to buy a machine which would have a new model on the market shortly. how many software updates have there been in the past and has substantial improvements such as processes like time stretch etc been added before?

i saw on the official site that there's only instructions for installing the os via flash card. is there any other means? eg usb.

usb connects to the card reader so you still need the cf card

yep, but thats my reserve memory. 32mb is a joke. i got a 1gig card and next time i'm gonna get 2gigs.

couldn't you easily avoid having to upgrade by moving completed tracks and used samples onto the pc via the usb?

It would be in a software update. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a conspiracy theory as some Akai people have spoken of it. But yeah it falls short of an outright confirmation and release date.

One theory is that various features have been deliberately held back to prolong the life of the MPC2000XL as long as possible. Given that Akai were in financial do-do last year it makes some sense that they would have done this.

Also as they now have Jack O'Donnell (owner of Numark and Alesis) at the helm he may want to put his own input in consistent with the products across all his companies. If we are unlucky then he might instruct Akai to leave the MPC1000 where it is and put their energies into a new machine altogether.

Akai can seem "dead" sometimes as they don't do a lot of interaction with their user base. having said that there was an OS update for the MPC4000 only a few weeks ago and an MPC1000 update at the beginning of this year.

Hell there's even rumours of an internal hard drive upgrade. There is a connector for it on the motherboard and why else would the front be a seperate panel section like it is?
