Curious to know how you all sample drum sounds from synth...

Hey all!

OK, I already know how to sample sounds of course. But, I'm just curious to know how everyone else does it. Like, how do you do it on the MPC, and what do you use on the computer for editing, etc....??

I'm thinking of sampling some drums from my XV-3080, and a couple of JV cards to my MPC, and building seperate banks of snares, kicks, cymbals, etc., via Pad 187.

Should I sample in the MPC, then use Audacity to edit the sample?

Or??...how do you all do it? I'm trying to look for the easiest (fastest) way to do it.

i edit all my samples on my pc you could use cubase pro tools cool edit or wathever then save as wav plug in my mpc via usb en drag my files into the folder i want it then i load them up and i`m finished

I usually record the output from modules on the PC as one big long wave, leaving enough space between each hit to easily separate them afterwards. I find it much faster than sampling and naming everything individually in the MPC, at least for when you're sampling alot of individual sounds from the same source.

So if I was sampling a drum kit from the XV-3080, I'd record each and every hit from the patch into one big sample in Sound Forge, leaving enough space between hits so the sounds don't overlap. Then I'd use the Auto-Detect-Peaks function (like ReCycle) to separate each hit into one region, and then use the Extract Regions function to save all of those regions (ie drum hits) as individual samples.

My only problem is that I don't have SoundForge, just Audacity. I'm not sure Audacity has that kind of function. Anyone know??

I think in Audacity, I can take a long sample, like you stated above, and edit it with Audacity. I think I can select each part, and "cut" each drum hit out of the long sample, and save each hit......I think.

yeah u can do that

I hav epro tools but I use audacity to clean my drums and put whatever sequence on them.. Then I have files on my CPU like: Bass drums, kicks, hi hats, crashes, percussion, etc..... So then I create programs with blue box where I only use 32 pads.. I have programs that resemble kanyes drums, or dres or the dirty south etc....... I always leave 32 pads open in case I want to throw some other samples and it'll be easy...

Then whatever Im working with I upload it to my MPC and work with that and my triton or fantom... When I have what I want I open up Pro Tools...
