Hi.
Im not new to messing with gear, but the 1000 so far is the most widely used, and most powerful sequencer I've had in my set up to date. So when I "upgraded" to it, the problems I've had on lesser samplers and such, I thought would dissapear. But I seem to have similar problems.

To me nothing I do is giving me what I think is a nice loop.

Here are a list of symptoms that seem to pop out and bug me-

1-When I listen to it, up until the last note in the last bar it seems to be ok, but right at the loop point, it's usually starting to late or too slow.

2-When I just do the drums alone, with no Keyboard sounds, it SEEMS like this beat might be perfect. THEN, once I start adding sounds from my Motif (midi), then listen to the loop, it's like how I described in the above symptom. Plus there also seems to be a bit of note slow down maybe at the halfway point of the loop, as if I was not playing on tempo, but not only was i, but should'nt the quantize that I have it set to be aiding in that department?

Is it the midi? Is it the MP? Is it my ears? Is nothing good enough for me? I doubt it. I've being using garbage gear for so long, that Once I got my MPC, I thought I would be solving some of my old pet peeves. But Im still a bit annoyed.

Any insight? Because I'll never give up until I get it just the way Im trying to get it.

My set up is the 1000, and Motif 6. No PC for me just yet.

MAke sure when you press play on the MPC it doesnt count in cause all other sequencer hooked up to the MPC will go off before the 4 clicks..

if its a melodic line you are trying to add, make sure that you release the last note before the loop triggers again. and make sure that you wait for the count before you start the melody.

so it seems to me your problem is when you try to sequence external gear, not do internal beat making within the 1k...
also, you say am i being too fussy etc... i doubt it. if your ears suspect the timing is out, then its OUT! Ive always found that, becuase when its bang on the nail you will know it immediately ;)...

as for what it could be... thats a tough one. sequencer timing on sending midi note on/off commands to external gear.??... i hope not (ive just ordered one of these things and sequencing outboard gear is one of the things i want to do with it!!!) also if its happening with even just one internal beat playing + 1 external motif line playingthen i woudl doubt that it cannot handle that...

what else.. have you some funny swing or quantise setting going on there? before i ordered my 1k i asked on this forum to alot of people about the sequencing of ecternal gear and got a range of repsonses, from the usual really helpful "read the f*ng manual - i did, arent i amazing!!!" to "no i cant get it to work too well" to "yes it works and it works well"!!

so i dunno... hopefully you can get a solution to this. good luck ;)
cheers

Thanx guys.

Pad-What happens if I play the melody through the loop? What happens, I never thought this would be aproblem because, right after you go through the loop, overdub is prompted as if this is encouraged. You think this causes imperfect loops?

Beyond-Count in on play or record? Because I never heard a count in during play mode.

Doezer & Profit-I tried my darndest to stay away from big swings. Personally I like 50%, but since I hardly ever get that perfect beat feel, then what do I know about 50%? So Im now starting to mess with 54%, and right now im still in the process of testing this, I will let you know though.

actually this might not be the case all the time. i think maybe if i set my params to poly this probably wouldn't be an issue. seems like the first note gets cut off if i overlap it by the last note. i'll check it out and get back to you unless someone else has a quick answer.

Yeah, sometimes the if you record like that, the 1st note does get cut off. That has happened to me before.

But that pals in comparison to a annoying loop.
