im not trying to troll or anything like that, just getting frustrated. maybe someone can offer some help - anyone else still having these problems?----
-sketchy save/load.
every once in a while i load up a project and it either wont play (the sequence data appears to be corrupt), or i get some kind of an error message, or a sample will be corrupt (see below), etc...
this is even more rare, but has still happened - i save things like over and over while working on a beat and i go back later and the thing is just toast. there'll be samples missing off the cf card completely or a whole file will be corrupt and not load-able. ive lost quite a few beats this way. it's even happened with a client sitting right here next to me. this is not user error, this is a card becoming corrupt under normal conditions.
-cf cards are annoying.
right now i own 3 cf cards. the 32MB that came with the mpc (works fine most of the time, except for the occasional fun like i wrote up there), a 256 fuji that acts the same, and a 1GB viking. the viking i just bought and i have to return it, like the other 5-7 cards ive bought that simply didnt work. it sucks that i have to buy a card and then devote a few hours to testing it out just to see if it is going to work! imagine if 2000xl people had to do that with EVERY SINGLE ZIP disk?! fuggetaboutit
-that stupid click at the end of a sample.
i know this was supposed to be fixed with an OS update, either the last one or the one before. i am still sometimes getting a blip of noise at the end of samples right after loading them. it seems to happen as soon as the sample file hits the cf card. if i drag a cleanly truncated sample off my hard drive to a cf, then load it into the 1k, maybe 20-40% of the time there will be this little blip added to the end of the sample, ranging in length from 1 to maybe 2000 samples.
if i take that same file off the card and drag it to my desktop, when i open it in a sound file editor on my mac the blip is still there. so it's not happening when i load the file, the sound is actually being changed on the card.
it sucks. it's like - i just wanna load up this stupid bass drum and get moving. but noooo, first i gotta find it in trim, the truncate it, etc.
no one else still gets this???
the other issues i have arent bug-related, just general weirdness. like the fx being kinda sucky. the way they are routed is a little stupid - for instance the mixer fader is what feeds the input to the bit grunger. so it is impossible to crunch up a sound with the bit grunger and not have it be totally loud in the mix. not without resampling anyway.
the last thing i was gonna say here i'll just make a new thread about.
so who still shares my angst
