I think ur talkin about the 2000xl. I like the 1k b/c its very portable. I throw into my bag with my mbox, and my laptop and wahla portable studio. if you want portability then go for the 1k if you want more of something thats going to stsy in your studio then go for the 2oooxl. The 2000xl does have few more features than the 1k like: timestretching, zoning. But you can still do zoning on the 1k just manually which isn't difficult. No matter what some of these ppl say on here. I think the 909 has timestretch, or you can just use a computer. The 1k ids really nice. You get a usb port to plug into pc and trans fer your files that way, you get a midi contoller, nice pads to bang those drums out on, very portable, it already comes w/ the 6 additional outputs no upgrading needed, and card reader (meaning you don't have to worry about a zip drive or any scsi hookups) cf cards fit very nice in your pocket. Dam you would by the this post I was workin at guitar center tryin to make some commission. lol. Both are good machine it all depends on what you want in a machine.

personally i still get messed up by the occasional bug (saving/loading errors and other annoying crap like that) with the 1k

so as of right now, i gotta say go for the XL if you can wait. and yeah, i say that realizing youre all ready to go. i guess there are people out there that havent had the bugs that i still get, but my experience has been mixed, at best.

ive also had issues with the sound quality of the 1k. i love the way my stuff sounds on it but i do find it need eq when a beat is done (it usually sounds too dark). thhis on its own is not really a big deal cuz while it needs eq, the sound still has a ton of weight, it's real beefy

I'm just wondering about that bug you mentioned. So your getting errors when you save/load thats weird.

1K= 128MB
2Kxl= 32MB

You will never, ever run out of memory with the 1K.
But, then again, I never ran out of memory when I was using a 2K w/ 32MB!

1k with computer is the way to go. for a lot of people who are starting producing today, buying old hardware is not too wise unless you don't have a computer. why? because of stuff like reason and ableton live. PCs are an essential part of digital music creation - learn to adapt. save some money and pick up a 1k...

then bootleg a whole hell of a lot of software.

Thanx a lot guys. Has n 1 used a roland MC-909? Is da samplin from da 1k different from that of the MC-909?

so yeah i get bugs. like bad enough that ive been shopping for an XL at the right price with the 8 outs and memory. like im ready to ditch the 1k right now it pisses me off so bad.

i do a lot of work for clients. i also make beats to sell and/or use on my own. i cannot afford to have this thing messing up on me with someone sitting here paying me by the hour ya know?

the bugs that happen -

-i still get noise bursts at the end of loaded or previewed samples. i think this was supposed to be fixed in 1.07 but it kept happening here. yes i can fix it with discard in like 1 second cuz it's second nature already, but why should i have to do that on half the samples i load into a song?

-if i have a long loop playing (like 8 bars of a keyboard part for example), one of two things will happen. either the loop will stop playing after 2 bars and a beat and a few ticks, or maybe 3 or 4 bars and a little extra or however long it might take. most of the time it wont play the whole loop, it will just cut out somewhere in the middle. i know it is not a lack of polyphony because it will happen even if it is the only track. IOW i cannot use long loops in a song. then WTF is the point of having 128mb of memory?!?

-the other thing that happens with longer loops is that sometimes the mpc will hang for a bit after i hit play. this is a totally weird thing and is so instantly annoying it made me wanna throw the fuc king thing out the window. so i'll hit play, it'll play thru the first beat or so (like beat as in 4 beats to a measure, not beat like yo i got this dope beat you wanna buy it? haha) and then just hang there for like half a second or so before continuing to play. any loops that are in the sequence will continue playing thru the pause, but the drums will wait until the pause to keep playing. it's totally retarded. i dont even know if im explaining it well cuz it's a really weird thing to see happen.

-to me this loops bulls hit is a big deal. if im gonna use the 1k over the XL it's because i can use longer loops. it's got 128MB vs the 32MB on the XL so that's what the extra memory is for IMO. but if i cant use the longer loops then why the hell am i screwing around with this piece of junk?

here are some more bugs i get -

-lots of save/load errors. like FILE NOT FOUND!! or DIRECTORY ERROR!! etc. this is on lots of different CF cards, both freshly formatted on the mpc and not.

-sometimes sync doesnt work, but honestly it's been a while since ive tried since i consider it unstable. maybe it works now with 1.07, im not sure. i know that i did a song with 1.07 and i could swear those **** high hats are totally off by just a little in that 2nd verse. i could swear...

-80% of the cf cards ive tried to use are not compatible. WTF?!? ive returned soooooo many of these goddamn things already. im stuck with this rinkydink 256mb that doesnt hold shi t cuz it's the only card that i can find that works! ive bought 512 cards, 1gb cards, other 256 cards, none of them ever work!

-maybe 20-40% of the time a sequence will load incorrectly. it wont tell me that with an error message though. it will just load as if nothing is wrong. but then i go to hit play and it's like "WHERE IS THER MF'ing SNARE?!" or why is the bass drum panned all the way left?! or the sequence data will load but no programs or samples loaded. or maybe the PGM's load but no samples load. or maybe half the samples. all this is more uncommon but it still does happen from time to time. and that makes it even worse! cuz this way every time i load something i gotta wonder if it loaded correctly. and no, im not some idiot who is maybe laoding this incorrectly, come on. im a freakin professional you know what i mean? i know how to use a goddamn mpc

-i have actually had data DISAPPEAR of a cf card. nuff said right?

and you know, honestly there are other bugs that i wont even bother writing here, there's really no point going into any more detail. akai doesnt bother with this list (jerks). maybe i got a funked up 1k, i dont know. just know that im sick of dealing with this toy already.

so you wanted bugs, you got em!! :lol: i dont know, maybe im using the mpc in more detail than other people here and that's why i get more bugs. maybe i use it like everyone else but mine is just messed up. it's a shame cuz when it works it's really a lot of fun to use and it sounds like nothing else out there (well, except for other mpc's, ahem).

i think, especially considering you're plight with various type of compact flash card, that your MPC has a dud compact flash reader/writer.
