I recently bought the 1k and i already have a microkorg, and a brand new computer. Could you recommend some good software for my comp. to incorporate the abilities of the korg and sampler, and to also Record?

I would roll with protools but there are other good products out there.
DONT get mbox as it has no midi!
Protools is also in every major studio so if you ever wanted to go to a studio with a track you would be able to burn to cd and load in any professional studio.

well i would try live , heard a few midi sync problems but live5 is around the corner and the guys that are beta testing are freaking about it ,, i cant wait to get a copy myself

can you import wave files into protool? if so, you could use any audio package that creates wave files, save the wave files to cd/dvd and bring that to the studio that has protool. right?

Exactly. Pro-Tools isn't what everyone makes it out to be anyway. Steinberg Cubase & Nuendo, Cakewalk Sonar, and MOTU Digital Performer are just as good and no where as much cash.

But you can export and import wav files with just about any multitracking program.

Yes these are all good programs but I would not say they are cheaper than protools! If anything they cost more because you have to buy sperate hardware. Mbox is $400 dollars. Digital Performer is like $600 and you still need the hardware. Cool thing about Performer is the number of tracks is limited to your computers processing power, unlike protools which is limited to 32 tracks. But protools again is in every major studio in america so you can bring your tracks from your home studio to professional studio and load them right up. There is no right answer, I would down load some of the free versions and play with each to see what you like and compare the specs of each to see what fits your needs the best. Protools has a free windows version and sure most of others have at least a 30 day trial.

I believe the free version of pro tools is only good on windows 98.

when buying all/most soundcards you do get a lite version (ie. le version) of a mutlitrack audio app, whether live lite, cubase se, etc.

when you buy pro-tools you are investing into the hardware. pro tracks, cubasic, live lite, etc can do what the pro-tools software can do. right? record audio.

yeah, these lite versions are cool, and a lot can be done with them.

I'm talking about the real Pro-Tools... not that LE bullshit.
