Great combination. The proteus x has all the original proteus sounds plus you can get the mo phat and other expansions. It's also a high quality sound card and dsp card so it doesn't use your computer CPU.

ideal setup for me, but I have all kind of problems tracking my beats. I also had problem with lost midi notes once I started using like 14-15 tracks. What will you track your beats into, and how?

I bought the Emulator X studio.
After an ENTIRE year the drivers for the hardware are now STABLE. Not good. Not passable. But just stable. Jeesh. This cost $600 dollars by the way.
Emulator X ( Proteus X but with Sampling) is a complete piece of garbage.
1. The interface (Proteus look ok.) looks like something from 1995. Seriously. It's pathetic.
2. Even if it looked better the workflow is horrid.
3. Crashes.
4. Sounds are ok. But since it's tied to the hardware it's the biggest gamble in software history- It's tied to hardware that doesn't work well.
5. EMU is now owned by Creative Labs. Nuff said.

I was really interested in the excellent hardware and only bought the Studio version because it was $100 more and I THOUGHT I was getting a cool software sampler. What I got was some of the worst software I have ever used, not music software, just software in general. It's horrible.
The add on sound modules are the same sounds EMU have been selling for the past 20 YEARS.
I would recommend just about any other software ROMpler/sampler on the market. Really. Anything is better than Emulator X/ Proteus
