When sampling Drums from a CD or Record especially, do most off you just cut each peice in the MPC or do you use software and send it back to the MPC. If you go straight with the MPC do you use the extract feature or just do it by manually catching each drum peice.(ie) Record then Keep or Dicard, then try again.

If your doing it inside the mpc the extract feature would be the best choice. Why would you try to catch them manually?

extract w/ play to/from buttons is quick and easy.

By manually I mean the same way I would catch a loop or a sample longer than one sound. Also I have not had much luck with this Extract feature.(And yes I read the Manual:)

1st, learn to use shift + >/< keys in the St and End fields to quickly scroll thru sample. then in the St field, pess the "play to" button and scroll the dial until you're hitting it on the one/downbeat. then in the End field, press "play to" and scroll dial until you want the sample to end. then you can use those to features plus "play loop" to get it loopin just right. its real easy but using shift + >/< keys is crucial.

recycle or acid depending on whether the sample is rhythmic or melodic

i still do none of my chopping on my mpc, no need. all my samples are recorded onto the pc first, and if you're using your computer a lot it's probably the fastest and most efficient way.

if no pc, extract

"recycle or acid depending on whether the sample is rhythmic or melodic"

can you explain what you meant by this a little further?
