weird pads

so i just got my mpc, but im a bit dissapointed, i just sampled a sound under a pad, and when i hit the pad, it plays the sample almost twice after each other, with only touching the pad once. Its not the velocity, cus i turn that on 'full level'. The pad sensitivity doesnt make any difference either (ofcourse, cus full level is on)

Ive already resetted the mpc to his factory settings but it still does the same. Im not working with multiple samples under one pad or multiple layers.

What the **** is this shit? It has the same wacky shit when i turn on note on. Are my pads busted or am i missing something.

does this happen on ALL pads? If so its unlikely to be a pad problem. Sorry not much help

yeah, id have the same question- if its only one or two pads, u got faulty pads. if all pads, it could be:
1. some weird midi connection, do you have other stuff connected? if so, try unhooking..
2. faulty mpc
3. maybe yer not used to hittin the pads right, at first i used to get _some_ double hits, tho not many, now that ive had it awhile it feels perfect...

another thing to try is just press down the corner of a pad, that also makes it trigger. if even that gives you doubles, id say probably faulty.

Yeah all the pads. Even when in note on mode...they acting like they are on some hyper drugs or something...im used to a sp-303 sampler which was fine drumming with the pads but this is really crappy. Its during 'solo' play, during sequence recording...everything.

no midi connected. Im hitting the pads in the middle. I've updated to the 1.07 OS. I've never tried any mpc type so i have only my sp303 to compare.

they're just sensitive. even with full level on its easy to trip a pad twice, especially if you hit near the corners. i mean you could have faulty pads, that could totally be the case but just be sure to give them a nice sharp tap.

sounds like the the pads are on poly and not mono.............

Sounds like you're just double triggering the pads, try to hit through the pad, not just tap it. You'll get the hang of it pretty soon.

i bet your sensitivity is waaay up AND you have them on full velocity.

full velocity means that even a note with the velocity of 1 will be registered at 127, so often when you hit your buttons and let the fingers linger the tingling of your skin against the rubber pads last for a couple milliseconds past the time intended.

consider that, but if that's not the problem adjust your pad sensitivity. you may have just gotten a really nice and sensitive mpc--you'll learn how to play it accurately.

playing the pads takes a little bit of skill

refine your technique a little and see if you can get it to not happen.

FWIW when i first got a 1k i was double triggering all the time and learned how to not do it after a day or 2. then when i got an XL i had to learn it all over again cuz i guess the pads are different

but yeah, maybe your pads are **** up too, i dont know

im really only hitting the pads once at a time...the first 2 or 3 ones go good....the rest **** up. pad sensitivity (under mode-other-pad) doesnt make any difference.

hi there,
my mpc1k had very stiff pads that triggered unevenly. the OS 1.6 made them less triggerhappy, but I had to soften up all pads by systematically pressing all edges and then ajusting sensitivity for each pad. this topic has been up on the forum before, so you're not alone with the trigger and velocity problem.

how do you mean 'soften up all pads by systematically pressing all edges' ? My mpc1k was used, so i think that the pads are already broken in etc.

'strange' thing is that when i go to for instance the track mute screen, i can hit the pads like i had in mind and it reacts just like i had in mind..when i touch a pad a track goes on or off, and not on-off-on-on-off like when i just trigger samples from a pad..

im lost..

this happend to me yesterday, i just deleted the sample and reloaded it and it was fine

yeah, totally normal. just get the technique down and you'll be ok

when you play drums, like say a bass drum with a pedal, you dont normally leave the beater pushing up against the bass drum head right? same thing here (but a different reason)...tap the pad and dont leave your finger down on it
