Overdub Problem

Well, I'm getting that stupid overdub problem I was having a long, long time ago. I am running the latest OS.

It happens like this:

My computer is driving the midi clock and the MPC is slave.
I start the computer sequencer and the MPC starts up, so far no problem. I hit Overdub + Record and record out some beats, I stop the recording and the midi clock still runs, so far no problem.
I lay down some more beats (same thing, by holding overdub and record)....... I do this for 15-20 minutes, starting the recording and stopping the recording but leaving the midi clock running. Eventually the overdub light stops working! I can't tell when I am recording or not! It even seems that I CANNOT turn off the recording at all! I have to stop the midi clock and start it again to fix the overdub button. As you can imagine that really doesn't work very well, especially when I'm jamming with friends.

I am going to email Akai about this as I had this happen back with the original OS and its happening now on the latest OS.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Yeah i had the same problem.
I was doing some freestyling , me making a beat on the fly and my friend playing the synth live not recording ,just record a track , turning of record , then while playing just go to a new track , overdub some drums , next track , overdub etc...
After a while i had the same problem you had.
My overdub light didn't turn on and i'm not sure but i think i heard the metronome clicking all the time even when i pushed the overdub button.
So i had to stop and press play again and it was fixed.
That's bug number three for me that hasn't been solved yet so akai 'd better drop a new update.

what program is sending midi clock ?

i wonder if that has anything to do with it...

i want to do something similiar at some point, but really don't want to experience the same problem...

Well, I seem to have narrowed it down.

It seems this error occurs when the MPC is not the MIDI timing master. When my friend uses his electribe as the clock source with MPC as slave this problem shows up. If I use Nuendo on the computer as clock source it happens as well.

This is really strange as I had experienced this bug a long time ago (much older OS, I am currently running the latest OS) but it hadn't happened again until recently, I assumed it had been fixed in an OS upgrade.

I have changed nothing about my setup, but it seems Overdub does not work correctly anymore when recieving MIDI signal. It used to take a lot longer for this to happen and now it is almost immediate! I am not impressed.

I am using the latest os and was using nothing but the mpc.

Yea, I've had this happen too.
Kind of a bish. I can't remember the exact set up, but I think I was recording midi from other gear, and the mpc was the master.
another bug to bug akai with for the elusive os update, although track volume control would be my favorite addition to any update.
