assigning cc's / ect

so cc's might not be exactly the right term -- but!

i have an maudio radium49 aannnd i would like to assign some nobs to things like - the pitch of a sample -- or the layer of the pad

the qlink sliders are nice -- but i needmorree of them --

so the question is -- what can recive midi information inside the 1000??

and how do i set it up -- ?

ive got the thing synced up to mtc - but thats about all ive been able to figure out -- and i didnt find anything usefull in the manual :/

ideas? - suggestions?

unfortunetly there's not much in the mpc sampler you can control via midi. Just note input. If you're controlling outboard gear, you can record any midi cc's, pb's etc into the mpc... but you can't control any of the parameters of the mpc 1000s internal samples.
Kind of a drag. I guess you need to get a 2k or 4k if you want to control the track's volume (without going into the mixer mode and adjusting each pad indiviually).
I've got a rack sampler that I control with the mpc, recording cutoff, volume, and other parameters with external fader and knob boxes. it works pretty nice. So that's how I deal with that limitation.

one question i couldent find a answer to is that you can use the 1K,s transport controls to control external sequencers ect ,, this is what i got from stereoroid.com.

"If set up correctly, you can even use the MPC1000's transport controls to control the combination of both sequencers"

if so does this include the Data wheel as well ?

I believe you can only control playing and stopping of other sequencers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

yea, it was the one thing that almost had me returning it.
The guy at the store assured me everything was midi controllable...
but it's still an awesome sequencer, and being able to play and sample simultaneosly is great, and the gushy pads are dope...
so I kept it, deal with it, and hope an update addresses some of the "limitations".

damn -- ive wished i had done more research or something -- i bought it so i could just bang out my drum sequences and have fun -which it does perfectly -

but such basic stuff like cc's didnt even cross my mind - i was sure it had SOMETHING

now im picturing myself buying another hardware sampler and sequencing it with the damn mpc -- which is a real shame cause the mpc could be so great

oh and ya -- no jog wheel support -- but i know that in Live the bar/step arrows will advance the sequencer

Ok tight live is my preference anyway but bummer about the Jog dial and the rest

I totally agree. I think the mpc is the shiznit, but you would think a $1000+ peice of sequencer gear would at least have track volume control and then some.
ohhh well... if it's track volume you need, there is the assignable outputs that can be used for manually adjusting audio level.

Personally i'm really happy right now having learned that the MPC can record CC data.....i thought it could not do this

as some people have pointed out this MPC is well suited to use with other things that address its shortcomings.....i.e computer s5/6000 etc.

actually after learning to impliment SYSEX messages i found out how to manipulate the effects of the midi device (e.g. flange, arpeggiators, chorus, delay etc,.). its not impossible. just tedious.

Most gear will output the messages that could be used to control it. The design for "good" gear is no different than a typical keyboard: play notes, record, playback. Failing that, many have sysex dumps that you can shovel over to the MPC to be "played back" to the gear.

Manually inputting sysex is a pain and I avoid it all costs. I even so far as to intercepting and recording the sysex strings between software editors and the device.

basically making the MPC's sampler a worthless add-on, which is the reason i sold it. can't justify having a $1000+ sequencer (2000xl), as much as i loved working with it. a bit too big to lug around as well for live sets if you've got a bunch of other gear. an OS overhaul that added usual sampling features as well as midi CC control of parameters would make the MPC line almost unstoppable. i think i'd like to eventually grab a 1000 if i can find one for $400-500, but the color scheme still makes me gag. i'd love if they made a 1000-sized stand-alone sequencer for half the price or less.
